I think for grandma Linux is actually easy. You can easily make it look like Windows or Mac or something recognisable with big friendly icons. And lock it down, so she can’t mess anything up. The only difficulty part is if you need something very specific that only works on Windows. But for gaming, browsing and Office, most things works absolutely fine on Linux. Valve has made it incredibly easy to install Steam games on Linux, even if they officially only work on Windows.

Most Linux apps can be installed from an App Store, that works like it does on phones. It’s a bit different, but it’s not harder. The exception is some multiplayer games that require some aggressive anti cheat, that won’t work. It’s also easier if you have an AMD GPU as it will just work on Linux, nvidia is making it a bit difficult, but that’s nvidia fault for not playing nice.

Installing something like Pop Linux doesn’t take more than 20 minutes.

I don’t think it’s required for single player games.

When was the last time EA had an idea that made things better for the customers.. you know like how companies are supposed to work. Customers pay and in exchange they get something that makes their lives a little better. But it’s always just about extracting value and giving as little as possible back.

“Here take the same reskinned soccer game, now a little bit more expensive, with ads and new bugs, and some micro transactions, because you should pay us more, because fuck you”

Why do people keep letting Microsoft be in control. Stop buying Xbox and Gamepass. Stop using Windows. Don’t use Microsoft Office. That’s it. Microsoft is no longer a part of your life and you can forget they exist.

It’s owned by Meta/Facebook a company that’s makes its money spying on users. Signal or Simplex Chat are much better choices.

She links to a news article: https://www.saudigazette.com.sa/article/641746/SAUDI-ARABIA/Etidal-Telegram-remove-over-16-million-extremist-contents-in-early-2024

I don’t think Telegram denies doing mass surveillance. They might deny targeting queer groups and claim to only target extremist, whatever that means.

I mean it’s pretty bad to practice mass surveillance.

Sure, but people should know they are being monitored by the Saudis, and Telegram should not be used for anything sensitive. They pretend to be a secure privacy respecting platform, but they are practicing mass surveillance and censorship.

It’s not nothing if Telegram makes people believe they only share their location in a limited manner, but instead broadcast it to the whole world. That’s a serious breach of trust. I don’t know why Telegram users keep making excuses for that platform.

At least people should cancel their game passes.

Maybe he should focus on adding e2e encryption to the default chats and group chats instead of spreading FUD.
