I'll be going on a trip to burgerland for the next... I think 2 weeks. So I might be offline. I've given jonathan12345 permissions to whitelist.

I'll go ahead and say something that may not be well received but needs to be said: It's time for some cleanup and proper organization around spawn, it's become a chaotic mess. It is increasingly hard to know what is where and there are too many unfinished projects that seem to have been abandoned. Someone needs to take the lead on the whole project, draw up a plan and delegate tasks. Anarchy is not working out.

You're definitely not wrong. Here are the specific problems I have run into:

  • Ad hoc building setback and placement

  • Old abandoned buildings and projects

  • Personal buildings with no label to who they belong to

  • Building for the sake of building

The ad hoc placement has made coherent street construction very difficult. To mitigate this, buildings must be moved or demolished. However, I have no idea who made these buildings so I had to communicate over days through signs.

As for overdevelopment, I am mostly talking about the several skyscrapers of housing that we have. Comrades, we only have a couple dozen players at most! If you are going to build something, have a use for it beforehand.

Anyway, I have a proposal. For privately owned buildings, one should put their in-game username (as seen in the player list), in-game chat name, and lemmy name on a sign somewhere clearly visible. That way, if infrastructural issues pop up, they can be resolved faster. We should also make a working group for city planning. The members could be chosen monthly and they could be responsible for streets and social projects like storage, farms, and the SEZ.

What bothers me the most is that there seem to be a number of farms already built around the server which i would consider quite essential and to which i'm sure most people would like to have access, yet many of them are very difficult to find. They are either built very far from spawn with no information on how to get there and oftentimes lackluster nether infrastructure leading there, or they are buried underground and you almost have to stumble on them by accident when you decide to go down a random hole or staircase. At the very least they should be clearly marked as what they are and how to use them, better still would be if there was a central ledger or map where the locations of all the farms that are available for public use are noted.

Yeah, I am a part of this problem. Built both the public iron and wool farm yet didn’t really mark it…. Is anybody still aware of them or are they abandoned? Wool farm is on spawn while the iron farm is near the XP farm

Building for the sake of building

This is really my only issue. I think the streets are fine as is, but the pointless skyscrapers are a bit of an eye sore (sorry Jonathan). Personally, I like keeping the abandoned buildings. If you want to build something new, just move to the outside of the current town. There's tons of space, I'm not sure why we'd destroy old builds.

[–] iridaniotter@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Destroying abandoned buildings is important for any city planning. If we leave them behind and just build new things further out, then the city becomes a whole lot less convenient.

[–] ComradeGiraffe@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I guess to me it depends on the building. A lot of them look like they had a lot of effort put in and I'd hate to completely destroy that effort. But I agree that we should figure something out, especially for storage.

Yeah, I had the same idea in June, but know I am far from my pc and will only be able to log on at the end of august. The canal thing was mine(if it still stands), I tried to see if anybody that plays is living in the spawn, but every time someone is online, I can’t seem to find anyone who lives there. I may think that some houses are literally abandoned and we can vote to get them demolished. If you seen the unfinished quartz building near the statues at spawn(if it still is unfinished, it wasn’t probably touched from the start of June.

[–] iridaniotter@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Maybe we're thinking of different quartz buildings but I put a sign asking if I could move and and someone replied yes so I moved it across the river to the new development area.

Completely agree. I think I'm at fault of this too, since I've been doing some projects and modifications on my own, but those have been in order to have a good amount of resources precisely to be able to make renovations in the future. But yes, I agree we need a better organization of the place.

[–] Jonathan12345@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Last time I went there spawn seemed pretty abandoned. What's there?

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I mean the town.

[–] iridaniotter@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I'm gonna be away from the 3rd to 6th. I'll be available on lemmy but won't be able to log on to the server. Don't burn down the city while I'm gone!

uh oh, is lemmycraft down?

[–] IStealXiBucks@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I just tried to play a moment ago. It's not letting me on either.

deng stare

This is bullshit. The thing that is wrong.... is wrong. Thats right, this is completely fucking insane. MC has a max mem of ~4GB. The server has 3.5 GB used. (which includes the 1GB that stuff other than MC takes). So why the fuck does it complain about being out of MEM?????? ( ;´ - `;)

this is fine

[–] ComradeEd@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh... It's not RAM. It's threads.

[–] ComradeEd@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Ok? Try now! I'm still in burgerland. So I'm a bit limited. But I do still have access to the server.

[–] IStealXiBucks@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I just tried to join. Doesn't seem to work. For one time I got on for a few seconds but then it kicked me out. :/

[–] Jonathan12345@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

The game works now, but I lost all my stuff :(

[–] CommieBeetle@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I just got into the server, and while at the "Please Login" screen I'm able to move and do limited stuff, like punching phantoms that for some reason spawned on me. If I try and login it kicks me. Could the login plugin be responsible for the issues?

[–] CommieBeetle@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I get this error now

Update: After I let the phantoms kill me, I respawned where I last slept, just without my inventory and my skin is still not showing. I can move around normally, no blindness effect but the login screen still show up:

[–] CommieBeetle@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Game tab shows the server as online, but as soon as I try to join I join a couple of seconds before it kicks me with that out of memory message thingy.

[–] CommieBeetle@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

You know what plugin would be cool to have? Some /sit and /lay thing
