For anyone as confused as I was: yes, this is indeed a link post on lemmy.world pointing to an article on kbin.social hosted by kbin.projectsegfau.lt and ultimately linking to social.bbc.
The old Fedi switcharoo.
A friendly place to chat.
No politics please. Don't be a dick.

Hold my FOSS, I'm going in.
Can we actually access that with lemmy? It's supposed to be federated but I don't see how to browse that via my lemmy app (sync)
Short answer: no. Interaction between Mastodon and Lemmy is a bit one-sided at the moment in the sense that you can follow Lemmy stuff from Mastodon but not the other way round.
I've been expecting the BBC to do something like this for a while; it makes so much sense and they seem do be doing it in a very considered way.
Not much to say about this new instance other than I think it's a good move... but Very_Bad_Janet? As someone who was extremely into Bad Janet, I'm not sure I can handle the concept of Very Bad Janet.
And if by some chance your username isn't a 'The Good Place' reference, then I imagine you're confused right now.
What up, forknut? ;)
It's a 6 month experiment but I really hope it works out - it would be great to have an official BBC source on fedi. I've put it in another comment but virtually all news shared on here (and Mastodon from what I've seen of it) from British sources is from the BBC or The Guardian anyway.
Apparently one left-wing instance has already defederated from the BBC for being a transphobic organisation though
How on Earth is the BBC "transphobic"?
Although I suppose some of these hardcore activist types think everything is.
I've yet to see any of them give any evidence apart from an article published on the BBC Nottingham website which relied on data which is apparently a biased source of something.
Which isn't particularly compelling enough to call the whole BBC a transphobic organisation. But I'll admit it's not exactly my specialist field
What I do know is the Beeb always gets shit from the right for being 'too loony left/woke' and shit from the left for being 'too establishment/not representative of anyone apart from wealthy white men'. It's meant to be unbiased so of course everyone accuses it of bias whenever they can. I think they just try and rise above it
Bbc is both a brexiteer and a remainer, left and right wing but most definitely against Scottish indy haha.
As a half Scot I both agree and disagree :P
Mastodon.art has always defedded very quickly
