Summary

Trump's erratic tariff policies threaten American manufacturing's recent renaissance.

Under Biden, manufacturing investment increased 220% from 2021-2024 through programs like the Inflation Reduction Act and CHIPS Act, creating 750,000 manufacturing jobs.

Trump has illegally frozen IRA spending despite court orders and called the CHIPS Act "horrible," advocating for its repeal.

Princeton professor Jesse Jenkins estimates Trump's actions could lead to massive cancellations in EV and battery production.

Unlike Biden's targeted tariffs paired with domestic investments, Trump imposes duties randomly without clear goals, creating economic uncertainty that discourages investment while risking recession.

Looks like he just destroyed his diaper too

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 14 points 17 hours ago

Well, why the fuck do you think Putin compromised him?

I work in manufacturing, supporting a company based in the USA that's currently expanding as a direct result of the CHIPS act.

I wrote both of my state senators and my representative to voice my concerns over this and other things, asking why they haven't taken action against the unconstitutional shit going on, or why they support those actions (Mike Lee is a traitorous bitch).

I fully expect to get [standard form response] from all of them, expressing their gratitude (lol) for writing in, proceeded by fellating Trump and Musk. If that's the case, I plan on refuting and asking directly why they aren't answering my questions. I won't stop at this point. My nice switch is off.

If only you could have heard the message I left Chuck Schumer earlier today. Hell, I wish I could listen to it again. It was inspired.

I believe it! I listened to John Larson's speech today, the one from a few days ago during the Doge hearing. Sent it to my wife, it made her day.

He looks good in red.

That's all well and good but refuting this administration is going to take more than a strongly worded letter.

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 8 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, but as a very busy person (working full time, parent of 5 kids), it's all I can really do right now.

I thought it might be a good idea to get a protest going every evening where people go out and bang their pots and pans for a few minutes, just on the doorstep or walking the block doing it with neighbours. Here in england we did it for weeks to support our health service during covid, but it's been used to protest many times around the world. I guess it's something which needs organisation to get a lot of people on board but its convenient, safe and hard to ignore when a lot of people keep doing it.

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

That sounds like it could annoy your neighbors while the people in power have no idea it's even happening.

[–] NotLemming@lemm.ee 3 points 13 hours ago

There is such a thing as the media. I started banging my pan because I heard my neighbours doing it and looked it up. Then again, people here don't usually have guns. The idea is that it goes on for a long time and winds up being reasonably widespread. Also it's an expression of solidarity.

[–] DougHolland@lemmy.world 14 points 19 hours ago

That certainly seems to be the plan.

Wasn't American manufacturing already destroyed when we shifted most of it overseas? Kind of feel like he's just defiling a corpse at this point....

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 21 points 20 hours ago

As the article notes, Biden was actually doing a pretty good job of rebuilding it. Trump is going to burn all that work down.

[–] nectar45@lemmy.zip 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

At this point guy may end up destroying all of capitalism in america instead

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 hours ago

No chance. The capitalists will buy everything up on the cheap, then buy the parts of the government that become privatized (or just have them granted to them because they're rich, and therefore smart and good). They will become uber oligarchs.

Perhaps if you mean destroy capitalism to go back to feudalism.

Just as Putin commanded him to do.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 3 points 19 hours ago

And every one and every thing he can get his hands on.

So if Bidens Chips act is the way to go, should Trump then borrow trillions to gift to every American company to get them to invest?

It seems like two corporatist parties competing, as Bernie Sanders and others are compromised by an undemocratic institution to gift the election to the worst candidate.
