Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

How do you gild things here?

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

This is the place for my joke!

Did you hear about the man with five penises?

His pants fit LIKE A GLOVE!

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago

It's even better if you tell it in a Sean Connery voice.

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

They'd probably just wear socks or 80's style leg warmers.

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago

They would mostly wear hats.

[–] iSeth@lemmy.ml 4 points 19 hours ago

Maybe a tiny skirt on the arm that is a penis

[–] dzso@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Why the fuck would octopuses have to wear clothes?! Come to think of it... why do humans have to wear clothes?

[–] DaddysLittleSlut@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

I think a big part of it began for survival. Since take this for example those living in colder environments after we lost our dense hair across our bodies. They had to wear things made from pelts. To sustain life in colder regions. Same goes for warm environments. The important areas of the body. It’s better to wear light clothing than get sunburn. Mainly if you don’t wish to go through the adaption to not need clothes. That’s gonna take 1000s of years of blisters, sunburns and more.

Beyond that. Let’s say you didn’t wear a shirt. Most times. People wear pants/shorts or something on their lower half for modesty and not to have their dick swinging. I mean have you ever thought how much of a nuisance it’d be. If you were running the jungles or forest with nothing holding that in. You’d slap that shit on trees, bush and sticks. That’s not fun. Alongside the bugs and more.

Now people here have mentioned hypothermia and myself. I can wear limited clothing in -1F. Barefoot shoes, Shorts and Tshirt enough to maintain a good balance.

If that's the reason why are you doing it in summer?

If you say protection from sun, how about warm cloudy day?

[–] cholesterol@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

You live in a warm place, I think

There is no suitable place for an Octopus to wear either pants or a skirt. Octopuses are almost entirely made of face. There is no torso, no waist, no lower body. We call the appendages around the mouth “arms” (not “legs”) but they are more analogous to prehensile whiskers. I think they would be more likely to wear a cap or headband. A balaclava would be interesting.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago

An octopus with a helmet would be unstoppable

[–] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Many octopodes can change the color and pattern of their skin at will.

Our clothing and tattoos are but crude facsimiles of their capabilities. Cephalopods have no need of such frivolities.

"Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power!"

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

They'd wear swimsuits, of course. Who wears skirts or pants in the water?

[–] 0ndead@infosec.pub 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why wouldn’t they just wear stylish hats?

Is that xxxxxxxxxxxxxxl or is it xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxl

[–] sxan@midwest.social 3 points 1 day ago

Now that's a proper hat. Shelter yourself and 6 of your friends from sun or rain!

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Squiddly Diddly just Winnie The Pooed it

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

England would still force them to change into trousers on the mainland.

Dress Act 1746

....when a Scot wearing a kilt travelled to the mainland, they'd have to change into trousers, There's changerooms still standing along the coast....

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Octopuses have 8 arms and no legs. They'd probably wear halter tops.

Perfect. No notes.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Pants are a status symbol in octopus society. Custom tailored, and you have servants to help you put them on.
