I suffered for so long and then finally caved and bought a custom-fit pillow for side sleeping. Literally had to go to a physio to measure the space between my neck and the end of my shoulder. It was some of the best $200 I have ever spent, I cannot recommend it enough.

What does a pillow like that look like? Got a pic?

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago (4 children)

It's one of these bad boys. Mine is specifically for side sleeping but they have back sleeper ones too.

[–] DogEarBookmark@reddthat.com 21 points 6 days ago (3 children)

My problem is I sleep on all sides at any given moment. Never finding true comfort

I'm not super sure but I think they just give you a different size that's better fitted for in between. Mine is just a tad bit too tall if I sleep on my back, but I had requested a side sleeper only.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Why does that cost so much? It's just a different shape it can't cost that much more to make than a normal pillow lol

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

The material is significantly better than other memory foam pillows of similar shape that I've had, but I suspect part of it is the gimmick too of like a medically approved custom sized pillow. I've had it for about a year now though and unlike other memory foam ones I've had, it's kept its shape very well and is still as comfortable as when I first got it.

How back sleeper pillow differ?

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

There is more space between your head and the ground when you are on your side

On your back you want a gradual increase in height from your shoulders up

[–] macaw_dean_settle@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

A back sleeper pillow is the right size and shape to fit in a coffin, which is the only time you should be "sleeping" on your back.

the only time you should be “sleeping” on your back

Now why would that be? 🤔

I too wish for the secret knowledge

[–] Tungsten5@lemm.ee 33 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You gotta game the system man. One big good pillow and one lil bitch pillow. You will sleep like a king

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

This is what I do. 10/10 would recommend.

[–] SuperCub@sh.itjust.works 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

[–] LeninOnAPrayer@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago

Sounds like a good subscription plan service.

[–] Pissman2020@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

I sliced a memory foam pillow to half thickness with a single edge razor and put it in the same case as a firm pillow. It's stiff as fuck for the first week or 2, but hoo boy is it the best pillow I've ever had. My wife kept stealing my pillow, so she got the other half of the foam pillow

[–] match@pawb.social 6 points 6 days ago

I'm going to get one perfect porcelain pillow and live like an emperor

[–] gazby@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Shredded foam, pretty much any kind, with a zippered end for adjusting. Toss it in the dryer on cool for 10m when it loses it's floof.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 2 points 6 days ago

This is the answer. Shredded memory foam 4 lyfe

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I have a big ass square pillow that I can fold over at my own leasure

[–] DogEarBookmark@reddthat.com 5 points 6 days ago

Where do I uh... I mean what would you call uh... can I just...

[–] Devanismyname@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

Pfft two. I'm using 3 pillows. One for my head, one to hug, one to go on top of my head to block out sound and make me feel secure.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Buy a blowup doll and inflate it juuuuust right.

What I need is a pillow that is very soft and conformal on the bottom, with a kind of rigid foamy part on top. I sleep on my side with my arm under my head and I need a pillow that molds to my arm but keeps it separate from my head so I don't pinch my sclipula.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

I have a single oversized pillow, it's the best.

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 days ago

wdym two is perfect

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

The real play is to get a soft fluffy pillow that you can adjust by moving the fluff around. I can virtually flatten it if my neck is bugging me, or stuff a bunch in one side for side sleeping. Mine is a sealy and I don't think I'll use a different brand again.

They got 2 packs at Costco.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I use a regular pillow and a body pillow

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

My body is the pillow.

[–] CaJoasca_Baloon@lemm.ee 1 points 6 days ago

That's why I have neck problems..
