Normally, this would be more of a c/quarks post, but fuck it, this is important.
It sucks.
All the major American media companies have done this, but that's not an excuse. It still sucks.
If there's any hope at all (and I'm not completely convinced that there is), it's in statements like this:
To be the best storytellers and to continue to drive success, we must have a highly talented, dedicated and creative workforce that reflects the perspectives and experiences of our many different audiences. Values like inclusivity and collaboration are a part of the Paramount culture and will continue to be.
That might be an indication that the policies themselves are sort of still in place, but under a different name. However, if they're discontinuing all metrics related to it, there will be no real way to know whether their "values" have a significant impact.

aaaand this is why I'm glad I haven't paid for media for a very long time.
I dunno how to interpret this honestly. On its face this reflects poorly on Paramount, but we live in an oligarchy and I don't really blame them for trying to avoid pissing off the volatile baby that runs this country when DEI can still be achieved without using that terminology directly.
Is there evidence that this division of their corporation was actually doing anything different than before the term DEI even existed? Or that Paramount has current issues with diversity?
I will give Paramount the benefit of the doubt — though briefly — and expect them to implement an IDIC policy instead. 🖖

I agree that not longer having a policy or metrics around diversity doesn't mean that the people in a company won't still value it. I'm a part-time student and the school's director recently did an AMA. He said an upcoming event was renamed to avoid the threats that are being directed at "DEI", but the event itself is still about cultural diversity. I forget what the new name was, something about the stories of our people or something like that.
Exactly. DEI as a term is just a lightning rod for idiots at the moment so maybe you just publicly stop calling it that and keep everything else the same.
I saw it on Blue sky a while ago and instantly unsubbed and said it was because I support DEI policies.
Paramount ends DEI policies, cites Trump executive order
Paramount Global is ending several diversity, equity and inclusion policies related to data collection and staffing.
The company cited President Donald Trump’s executive order banning DEI in the government and directing agencies to probe private companies over their programs.
Fellow media giant Comcast is under investigation by the federal government for its DEI policies.
