I just find that there's something really dystopian about this, even beyond just the grim reminder that climate change is already here and it's only going to get worse...

That wind is no joke. No wonder they can't contain this.

[–] rabber@lemmy.ca 56 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's caused by the fire itself. As the fire gets bigger the heat intensifies which causes a wind and it starts fanning itself. That's how jasper alberta burned down instantly this summer

While true that fires create their own weather systems, So Cal was already experiencing insane winds prior to and during all these fires cropping up. The Santa Ana winds are notorious around these parts for being ravenous and bringing extremely dry conditions, while everything down here was already parched to begin with.

I hate McDonald's and I hate wildfires, so I'm surprised they mix so well ❤️❤️

It's the perfect gif of how my stomach feels after eating at McDonald's

Post a screenshot, some of us don't use Twitter anymore.

I've never used Twitter, but I'm able to view this. As it's a video, a screenshot would not be adequate.

Functionally, it was fine. I saw no ads while watching this clip and therefore likely contributed no revenue to them. I suppose technically you might contribute some browsing data, but largely I suspect that clicking this link as an anonymous viewer offers no material benefit to Twitter. Which isn't to say the clip couldn't also be hosted elsewhere, but hey, be the change you want to see in the world.

edit: In fact, if enough anonymous users click this, it might technically qualify as a net loss due to bandwidth, etc.

This imgur links to a 854 x 482 pixels, 15 seconds, 3.79 MegaBytes, mp4 video with sound. Was film from behind some transparent panel ? ( maybe vehicle or shelter ? ) Shows McDonald Panels and Palm Trees on fire in high noisy wind.
Here is a screenshot :

Nice! You're a real one, thanks!

Seems like the kind of image that might become iconic, awesome.

Their billions have already saved them before they burned down

All of this is insured better than your life! They will be up and running in no time, and probably even come out of it with a profit too!

[–] oyo@lemm.ee 9 points 3 weeks ago

No poors will ever be able to get fire insurance again, though.

At least the fries won't be cold

This makes a near-perfect opening shot for a grim, mid-apocalyptic movie

[–] AlphaOmega@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Reminds me of "This is the End."

They should share these sparklers with the shareholders!

These wildfires brought to you by the unregulated corporate greed of companies like McDonald's! I'm (not) lovin' it!

[–] lud@lemm.ee 8 points 3 weeks ago

Aren't almost all of their locations franshises? MC corporate will make slightly less money if a franchise disappear but I doubt they care that much.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

This is what should happen to their brand after they turned their back on women and minorities.

Shareholders be like "Oh no! Now how are people gonna get their $500 burgers that use 0.001¢ cost synthetic rubber meat?!?! And more importantly how are we gonna be able to whip our wage slaves to death if they can't come in to work?!?!?!"
