This isn't a criticism of Majel Barrett, but it didn't "take" 3 actresses to play her roles, those were just hiring decisions.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.
~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.
~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.
~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.
~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.
~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.
~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

Do you really think they would have decided to hire one actor for all three roles? And yeah, it kind of is a criticism because the point is she had that much range as an actress, playing multiple iconic characters which people have no problem keeping separate in their minds rather despite all being played by one person.
It wouldn't have to take a dozen actors to replace Jeffrey Combs either... but good luck finding one actor to replace all of his roles.
How in the hell did I just now find out Lwaxana Troi was played by Genes wife!
I was even more surprised when I found out Lwaxana and the enterprise computer had the same actress.
I don't condone AI attempting to "steal" voices of passed actors/actresses, but I'd love to have my car navigation using her voice (either as the computer OR as Lwaxana)
The computer voice would be fine, but i feel Lwaxana would be rambling about her 3rd husband or something instead of giving directions
I'd love to have the voice of Data giving me navigation directions and LaForge interrupting on a regular basis feeding me endless technobabble about everything that was wrong with my vehicle while the 'red alert' siren plays in the background
She did supposedly record her voice for the purpose of using it as the computer before she died, but I've never heard it used.
Unable to comply.
Building in progress
Oh wait, wrong Franchise.
i remember you used to be able to download voice packs for one of the common map apps (maybe Waze?) but instead of saying the road names it just gave simple commands like turn left and turn right. i betcha you could rip all of those straight from episodes without needing to synthesize anything new
Majel was an amazing actress and gorgeous woman.
Agreed on both. And I'm sorry she wasn't in more.
When you are just that good... :-)
And if they ever decide to add M'Ress, it will be four.
I just watched TOS S2E1 the other day, and I was surprised by how much the new Chapel actually looks like her. They cast her really well. Before, I'd really only seen Barrett as Lwaxana.
Couple more years and we can celebrate her centennial.
