Sierra is not an uncommon name, River as well. Probably more.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 1 points 38 minutes ago

In Spanish, Selva (rainforest) is a somewhat common girl's name

[–] wunderbred@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 31 minutes ago

My name is Clay.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago

Well, Tundra is already in use. Forest is more common than you know. Arid would work if it didn't mean what it does.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 8 points 2 hours ago

Not biomes but ...

Cesspool is an acceptable nickname tho.

South wetlands is reserved only for the exceptionally hot individuals.

Forest Whitaker DESTROYED

[–] SolarMonkey@slrpnk.net 8 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Tangent but.. Wow it didn’t even occur to me that paludariums were so named because that’s the type of ecosystem they are mimicking, rather than some guy named Paul invented a cool-style terrarium/aquarium merger.. (example below)

TIL!

For 2023, the number of births with name River is 3084, which represents 0.168 percent of total male births in 2023.

Tundra is not in the top 1000 names for any year of birth beginning with 2020. Please enter another name.

Was looking them up at https://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/babyname.cgi but now "This website is temporarily unavailable," did everyone have the same idea and it's only resourced for 1qps?

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 hours ago

Using flat terrain to facilitate fast movement and colonization. I sure hope no one invents a way to kill me while I descend on your village

[–] moody@lemmings.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Love is a battlefield

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 9 points 5 hours ago

I guess cause when the name was made, a good place for a battle was a big ole field. (Speculation)

[–] NakariLexfortaine@lemm.ee 4 points 5 hours ago

Yeah, what the fuck?

A plain is mostly grasses. Meadows, fields, and battlefields have flowers.

And love can bloom on them.

[–] Freefall@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago

Xeric Shrubland is going to Google his name in 16 years and dedicate his life to hunting you down.

[–] Hello_there@fedia.io 16 points 5 hours ago

Does Forest not count? Gump is sad.

[–] shittydwarf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 81 points 7 hours ago

I know a kid named River 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] Artyom@lemm.ee 1 points 54 minutes ago

Are they a bastard born between King's Landing and The Twins?

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 14 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I do as well. She's a real badass too

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 12 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

And she can kill you with her brain.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

We're possibly talking about different people, unless the River I know has latent superpowers that I'm unaware of.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 12 points 4 hours ago

I'm thinking of River Tam, from Firefly.

Whether she can or can't do that is still debatable, but she did tell Jayne she could. And she can read minds, so it's not entirely out of the question...

[–] SacredHeartAttack@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

No, lol. My cousin’s real-life 5 yr old son.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

there's probably somebody named lake

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago

Actress Lake Bell? She has a lot of credits. Girl works.

[–] mrmacduggan@lemmy.ml 18 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Theorycrafting this - Tundra would be a nice name. So would Mesa, Fen, and Delta.

Sitting behind these hairdos in class and at the theater definitely sucked back in the 80's.

What about For(r)est Gump?

[–] shai_hulud@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago

I'm going to change my name to Peat Bog

[–] will_a113@lemmy.ml 30 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Xeric Shrubland is definitely a LOTR character.

[–] salvaria@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Xeric as a name actually sounds kinda badass

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 16 points 7 hours ago

If I ever see it as a name I'm just going to assume it's someone who was named Eric by his parents and had it changed to be edgier when he was fourteen

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 22 points 7 hours ago

Taiga is a nice name too

[–] Moonworm@hexbear.net 3 points 5 hours ago

I would name a child Orchard.

[–] SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 hours ago
[–] bizarroland@fedia.io 7 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Xeric sounds kind of like a cool name to give a kid if you want that kid to suffer for their entire life.

But then again they could rise above it and become a cool person, maybe not quite on the level of Streetlamp leMoose but close.

[–] Votes@lemm.ee 6 points 6 hours ago

They'd be pretty popular with the Runescape crowd, for whatever that's worth.
