My depression and intrusive thoughts actually got worse during the redditpocalypse. But that was, at least in part, coincidental. A lot of life stress stuff started happening at the same time, and my usual coping mechanism for when things would become too much (scrolling through reddit) was seeing a rapid drop in quality. After approaching a new low, the stressful stuff started subsiding, and things are mostly better now. There are some aspects about yourself that you can't change, but you do ultimately choose how you react to, cope with, and manage these issues. I will have depression and ADHD for the rest of my life, I but I can choose to manage things in such a way (taking more time for myself, having a better diet, being more active, etc.) that these "attacks" are less frequent.

I was new to Reddit, only on for just under 2 years. The amount of toxic, trolling hate I received was demoralizing. It definitely affected my mood, and reduced my belief that humans were mostly good, caring people. I began to see that many more people than I wanted to believe reveled in demeaning, insulting, and hateful attitudes- for pure joy.

I know I definitely chose for the most part not to post or comment on Reddit because I saw so many people either ignored or not getting supportive responses to posts that definitely required it. I'm hoping this will be a place where everyone will feel heard and respected. We may not be the busiest community, but we can at least be one where it's okay to be imperfect and talk through your issues honestly.
It's so difficult to actually get started on that new path. It's very kind of you to share the steps you're taking to make a real change to your life and your outlook.
