It remains to be seen how CIG will continue developing its games as its funds seemingly dwindle, but the studio is actively seeking additional funding

Well, there's an unexpected turn of events.

Cloud Imperium Games is set to hold its annual Citizencon on October 19th-20th, 2024, with fans planned to see a demo of Squadron 42’s Chapter 1, which was internally said to “get our community on board with the fact they are getting very close to Squadron’s full release.”

Of course, fans should also expect to see a lot more of Star Citizen. But as the past 12 years have shown us all, nothing is set in stone.

So they're working their people with no weekends to get a demo of the first chapter of a spin-off game that is intended as an interim release preceeding the actual game that they promised backers over a decade ago. Sounds peachy.

Setting aside mismanagement of the development on Star Citizen, I do think that the willingness of people to dump enormous amounts of money into Star Citizen development does demonstrate that there really is a large body of people who really would like to see a new, good, space combat game of the Wing Commander sort.

That's a very rosy perspective on humanity in general, and the truth is likely to be far more banal and uninspiring, NGL. 😅🫢

or it’s just a potential case study on the sunk cost fallacy

No it's worse than that. Star Citizen was supposed to be the mp part after Squadron 42 came out. Which supposedly had been worked on the entire time so why would they need to crunch?

They've been doing nothing now are scrambling because people actually want the thing promised to be released not the secondary mmo set in universe.

Squadron was the original kickstarter promise.

Star citizen was a stretch goal and side project. Supposedly they’ve been meticulously crafting every detail of Squadron 42 for the past 12 years, and 7 years ago they pinky promised it would be out by 2018.

The ships better have higher fidelity than my fucking house, or I’ll know they spent the past decade fucking off, and are only now pushing this out like a freshman term paper because they realized the due date is tomorrow.

Nothing. There, didn't even need to read the article, and I saved you all a click.

Exactly, nothing is happening. That's why there wasn't a patch dropped today or anything, no server meshing tests and no major patches released to the player testers. Nothing to see here.

He means nothing interesting

Fair enough, who am I to get in the way of people poking fun at a game they've never played and know nothing about

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

I would've loved to play it, been waiting for over a decade now though lol

This dude has spent $3500 on a subscription to a game still in development

[–] Aurenkin@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's not how it works but yes I have actually played the game. I guess that automatically disqualifies me from having an opinion on it.

They started development to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And they're all outta gum.

And they forgot they had no legs.
