Just as the title says. Dunno why memes are of interest now (out of the loop) but it's driving me nuts

You could subscribe to what you do want, and browse Subscribed

To touch on this I think the sorting algorithms could do with some improvements, it shouldn't be possible for one or two communities to completely take over the front page just because there's a lot of activity on those communities.

I recall Reddit used to have a similar issue until they tightened it up.

For now just blocking the specific communities should do.

Indeed… Send this suggestion to lemmy support. It’s a good one.

One of the only good things spez ever did was when he first came on as CEO they updated the front page algorithm to promote more small and niche communities and limit how much one sub could dominate the front page

This is not a support community, please have a look at the sidebar

Support content seems to be most of what's posted here now. It's mind boggling really. A huge number of us are Reddit refugees and AskReddit was always about community engagement and not about support. I really don't know what makes people think this is any different.

I don't get it either, maybe that could be its own AskLemmy question ha ha

You can block entire communities, you'll probably have to do it from the site.

Unsubscribe from the community. I did it this morning myself. It's out of control and I had to scroll 2-3 pages before I found literally any content that wasn't just a shitpost circlejerk meme.

I'm new and confused, how do I un sub from a community?

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It's usually in the sidebar just like it was on Reddit. Also make sure that you're only viewing your subscribed communities instead of "All" which is the default setting I believe.

[–] 8565@lemmy.quad442.com 2 points 1 year ago

I did the same yesterday

As noted, please check the sidebar for good places to ask support questions like this.

Memes are of interest NOW? To each their own but it’s the internet, gonna be tough not to see a meme.

But I agree with some of the other commenters. Customize your experience to suit your needs by carefully subscribing to only the communities you wish to engage with, then in your settings, choose to show only what you’ve subscribed to.

Already blocked a bunch of them, keep swinging the hammer whenever a new one rears its ugly head.

[–] lemminer@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

Go through all tab, see what community posts are cringe and block them.

[–] Chozo@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I've just blocked them, myself. This keeps them out of /all searches for me. Most of them, I don't even understand, anyway. This shit makes me feel old, lmao

@canitendtherabbits@lemmy.world Memes has always been a interest to the internet, it just the internet culture.

You can block the meme community on the sidebar of the community page on the instance you're currently on

Simply place your phone, tablet, and any other devices in the microwave for 10 seconds, this will remove all the memes.

[–] ApollosArrow@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

While yes, you can block them like people have said (which I do) a new place pops up everyday. It’s like whack a mole. I would love to have some kind of filter that automatically blocks any magazine/community with the word “meme” in it. I would like to not always stay on subscribed so I can see more content and not create and echo chamber for myself.

You don't, you embrace them.
