MODERATORS

If I created a community, and later determine there is a better/more active community on the 'verse, is there a way to close the community (or better yet redirect it to the community I'd rather folks join if they are interested in the subject matter)?

I suspect this is documented somewhere but neither a search on lemmy.ca nor a DDG inquiry found anything immediatly recognizable.

i don't think there's a universal way to do this currently.

i would say probably the best thing to do would be to create a pinned post saying the community is closing or whatever, with a link to the new one, and also maybe something in the community sidebar as well.

you could also set the community to only allow posts from moderators.

Set it to where only mods can post, and make a redirect post to the preferred version.

This allows the previous content to stay in place, and moves the community

Android did it by closing all new comments from their old instance, pinned a post explaining where and why they are moving and explained that in august (or september) the old community will be deleted.

Are you reffering to !Android@lemmy.ca? I'm not seeing what you are speaking of.

It was !android@lemmy.world that closed down and merged into !android@lemdro.id

How do you delete? I couldn't even find that option.

there should be a "remove" option when you're on the community page itself.
