Life when vector is ๐Ÿ’€

[โ€“] propter_hog@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

Life when a vector is the approach path an airplane flies toward the airport

[โ€“] MadBob@feddit.nl 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A computer-generated image as a representation of a mathematical formula rather than a collection of pixels.

[โ€“] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It's only an image if you look at it.

[โ€“] tripartitegraph@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yo hit me up once you start talking Hilbert and Sobolev spaces. That's when the real blob-on-fire hits

[โ€“] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hilbert spaces are relatively nice.

They're sick as hell

Life when a Vector is a cool crocodile wearing headphones.

Life when "a Vector is Victor & his dog, Yondo"

Come to think of it, why are arrays in R called vectors?
And don't tell me it's because thats what they're called in S

[โ€“] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 6 points 1 day ago

Probably because it's what they're called in C++.

I assume because it all does tie back to math terms. There is a lot of computer science in which arrays/lists are used for vector arithmetic (graphics, ML, generic math). I suspect only later in the field did arrays mutate into generic lists that you see in R and Python.

life when vectors dont work as expected near light speed

Life when "a vector is just the values in a register where you can do an operation on all of the values at once".

[โ€“] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

After the clearance, Clarence.

Life when a vector is a breakfast cereal

[โ€“] callyral@pawb.social 15 points 1 day ago

Life when "a vector is just a monoid in the category of endofunctors"

Oh, I think I got some definitions mixed up...

[โ€“] bbuez@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Oops, all pseudovectors

[โ€“] sga@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

life when space is ฮฉ and boundary is dฮฉ (or S, ds) or all space is abstraction of a hilbert space of dimension n

[โ€“] recklessengagement@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Squid gun! Oh, yeah!
