Tears of the Kingdom is exceptionally well-designed, offering mechanics that are so refreshing that they surpass even Breath of the Wild, a game known for its brilliance.

However, the performance limitations of the Nintendo Switch significantly hinder the experience, leading me to believe that the current state of the game upon launch is unacceptable.

Currently, there are no viable alternatives to playing the game other than on the Nintendo Switch, except for using an emulator, which performs poorly. It's puzzling why Nintendo hasn't considered developing a new console with backward compatibility to address these issues.

What is your take on this?

I’m not sure what performance limitations significantly hinder the experience or make it unacceptable? It’s been fine for me ~95% of the time and definitely worth playing.

Since the game relies so much on its physics, which is a mayor selling point of the game. Every time i use the ultrahand ability the game drops frames.

Of course man, it's really impressive that they were able to pull all of this off on a mobile system that was released 6 years ago. I just think that takes away from the overall experience.

A slight drop in frame rate is unacceptable?

And you think they should develop an entirely new console to address minor frame rate issues?

Yeah! Its a 70,- game. It's an amazing game but the hardware of the Nintendo Switch is definitely too far behind. They released a switch oled recently with the same hardware as 6 years ago.

I get that, and it would be nice to get an updated switch. I don’t see how a simple frame rate issue is unacceptable though, personally I reserve that to actual game-breaking issues. A frame rate issue is disappointing but not a big deal to me. Are you actually refusing to play the game because of this? Otherwise it feels like you’re being hyperbolic. The game is still fantastic, even if it’s not worth $70. Part of the price is just brand recognition, it’s LoZ.

TotK is absolutely amazing, no questions. However, while I have certainly noticed a few hiccups the performance has been more than adequate. Sure, it's not as good as any of the PC games I own but it's also not trying to be.

An emulator that "performs poorly"?! Maybe if your PC sucks/is out of date.

I completed TOTK via Yuzu at a near locked 60fps, native 4k auto-HDR with reshade. This was on my HDTV with a pro controller.

If that's poorly performing then I'm gandalf's aunt

Edit: I have TOTK on the switch too. It is absolutely no comparison - the switch is at the point now where you absolutely get a better experience on PC than on the switch. Switch 2 plz, Nintendo.

I think the performance isn’t very good, especially coming from PS5.

However, my opinion is that TotK is an incredible game despite its performance problems. It’s a testament to how great the game is that it can be enjoyed so much even with the performance issues.

I would say it’s one of the most “fun” games I’ve ever played, even though it looks so much worse than games like Demons Souls, etc.
