Title is misleading. Xiaomi didn't go up, Apple came down as they do at this time every year.

Although Xiaomi’s sales remained flat MoM in August, Apple’s seasonal decline helped the brand reach the second spot.

If only they could improve HyperOS...

[–] limerod@reddthat.com 9 points 2 months ago

If they could they would easily be No.1. Their hardware lasts years. But their software, nope..

I'm amazed that people apparently trust not just sensitive Chinese hardware, such as mobile phones, but even whole Chinese operating systems.

Is it really that much worse than the NSA/PRISM spyware? I feel like unless you're running libre stuff, there's no avoiding this shit

[–] Pilferjinx@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I figure, I'd rather China my info than my own government. Both are terrible options unfortunately.

Yes? You either don't know a whole lot about China or are arguing in bad faith if you truly believe the US to be as bad or even worse.

[–] fossphi@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Okay I'll admit to not knowing much about China. But do you have evidence to your claim that Chinese spying is worse than what the NSA does (and did according to the PRISM leaks by Snowden)?

Moreover, I feel like the impact of Chinese surveillance is personally less on me than American (companies). But I'll concede that this is subjective

While flawed, the US is still a democracy. China is an authoritarian regime with basically 0 privacy rights, concentration camps, slave labor, dark sites for dissidents, and mass surveillance that goes far beyond anything the West has to offer. They basically brutally massacred their own student democracy movement at the Tiananmen Square protests.

Moreover, I feel like the impact of Chinese surveillance is personally less on me than American (companies). But I'll concede that this is subjective

What impact had PRISM on you personally?

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They don’t say China is a better country but in terms of spying yah same thing and China might be better as they well have no impact.

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 1 points 1 month ago

And you had to tell me this three times because..?

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

They are not saying the US is worse just that in terms of data mining they’re the same.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Chinese or Americans take your pick. Yes I think America is a better country but in terms of taking my data I don’t see a difference and China might have a slight edge as they would have less of an impact on my life.

I trust Chinese hardware more than I trust American ones.

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah but you're also on a Tankie instance, so that's not too surprising to hear.

[–] fossphi@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Really? Resorting to ad hominem?

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 1 points 2 months ago

That's not an ad hominem. lol
