One thing that annoyed me about moving to Lemmy was that I'd lose my subreddits and that looking for and joining communities on Lemmy would be tedious. So (logically) I spent 2 days writing a script, that gets a list of your subreddits from your reddit account and looks for communities with the same name on Lemmy. It also joins those communites. So all you have to do is download, enter your credentials and you're done.

Not to steal your thunder but the wefwef web app does this also, you just paste in your profile’s multireddit url and then it gives you a clickable list and each click searches Lemmy for all similar communities and then you can sub to any that you want.

Didn't know that haha. My script does the same thing pretty much. Just automatically if that maybe is worth something. And I'm not after thunder, I made this mainly for myself (and to train coding) and if someone else finds it useful that's great

Certainly! I think it’s important that people innovate and it’s amazing when it’s helpful for others. Keep up the great work! 😀

Is wefwef iOS only though?

It’s a web app. Now called Voyager.

No, Wefwef is a webapp, meaning you can use it on anything (even on desktop.) It goes by Voyager now.

Can this be used with an kbin account too?

[–] induna_crewneck@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It would need to be edited a bit, but overall it should. The main issue I think are the selectors for the login fields on kbin. Might try to implement it when I get some more time

There's at least a second person who would appreciate it (me)!

Added a variation of the script that works with kbin :)

I would have been another kbin user interested, but I already unsubbed from all but a couple reddit subs. Nice contribution though!

Not normal. Haven't seen that one, yet either. Do you know how to redirect the output to a file and send that to me? (make sure to delete your login data before you do). If you don't know, let me know and also tell me what operating system you're using

[–] OctoFloofy@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Unfortunately i don't know, Windows 11.

Nice work!

but where were you 2 weeks ago :(

[–] induna_crewneck@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm sorry, I had this idea a while ago but didn't get around to doing it. I knew if I started it would take up most of my time (which it did) and I couldn't afford that until now

[–] density@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

omg you do not need to explain. :) I'm sure that comment was intended as appreciation for your good work. just joking about how hard it was bad in the old days and kids these days have it so easy.
