I recently made a comment to the effect that if you’re from China, Russia, or the US you’re used to your country getting away with anything it likes and zero repercussions. As a result the populace is not psychologically prepared for things to go wrong compared to pretty much everyone who lives in the third world. My comment made people very angry, it was weird.

A lot of people in those countries are experiencing a whole lot of "things going wrong"

But not a security "situation"... closest US came in recent history was 9/11. Then two wrong countries got invaded and country got looted. Now we are paying our tolls.

A fair distinction, albeit not clear in the comment I replied to.

I feel like the divide is between people who attempt to find things out for themselves and the people who rely on external sources to foist information upon them.

well of course. there are preppers and other people who always expect the worst. everyone is different and when you make such a comment the ones who are prepared feel disrespected, even if they are not the biggest group in those countries. a lot of people live there and even relatively small groups can nominally have tens or hundreds of thousands of people.

Id argue that most people think that the good times never end, which is why economies and stock markets are constantly crashing. They don’t prepare for it not being perfect.

maybe not constantly, but you have a point

Oddly also the group that loves to say a civil war is around the corner, yet was dying to go hang out during covid.

Yes exactly this. The sort who play dress up in daddy’s tactical gear and dreams of being a hero is also the sort to yell at a minimum wage employees who can’t defend themselves. They have never face real adversity and have no idea what it would be like.
