I'd argue most people don't even realize they're assholes.

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Assholes are especially bad at recognizing that they’re assholes.

Assholes Recognizing the shit that’s coming out your mouth is the first step.

Marriage is a Christian concept. Christianity is against homosexuality.

That’s why gay people should not try to get the right to marry each other.

They should instead strive for a separation of church and state. Separate Marriage from legal partnership.

If gay people still insist on a christian marriage, then it is their responsibility to found a new church with a new approach to faith.

Edit: Since in today's world even the simplest words can be misunderstood, I would like to add the following:

I don't give a damn about homosexuals. They should take care of their own problems, just as I have to take care of mine without complaining to everyone else.

If that is already considered homophobia, then someone should at least tell me why.

Marriage comes with legal ramifications at this point that in some states civil unions do not provide. The talking points of marriage being a Christian invention are pretty revisionist at at best, but I am willing to believe you are simply uninformed.

Also, early translations of the Bible do not support it being against homosexuality, but rather feminine males who cut their beards. Still pretty bigoted and surrounded by prohibitions of mixed fabrics and shellfish though.

Also, please refrain from using burner accounts and botted upvotes in the future for your concern trolling.

Edit: autocorrect is awful

Thanks for your reply.

First off, while you are correct, marriage is not invented by Christians, the most prevalent concept of marriage comes from Judaism and has from there evolved into the Christian concept of marriage and from there into the Muslim concept of marriage.

Gay people should not expect that they can make use of an old concept of marriage. They need to invent a new one. And therefor they need a new branch of religion that does not leave any point of attack (and Christianity, Judaism and Islam has tons of scriptures that are actively against homosexuals).

Furthermore this is no real burner account. I mean I am an edgy asshole, and I am full aware that people might ban me for this. But I am for sure not using bots to upvote. I am surprised myself about the upvotes. I was expecting g a ton of downvotes. This instance has clearly a problem with bots, but I am not the cause.

And yes. Autocorrect is awful.

Edit: you are right. Someone is Auto upvoting my comments. But I have nothing to do with it.

Edit2: never mind. My other comments are not getting upvoted.

Marriage isn't a christian concept at all. It's existed in almost every culture in the world for all of recorded history.

Alright.

But the LGB movement is most prevalent in western countries.

And in western countries we have a minority of Christians and Muslims.

Both Christianity and Islam find their roots in Judaism.

[–] MostlyBirds@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The legal construct of marriage in most western countries is entirely separate from the religious one.

[–] whoami@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

Marriage is not a Christian concept - matrimony is. The concept of marriage predates the Christians by millennia.

[–] Poob@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 year ago

Christians did not create the concept of marriage. What fucking nonsense.

This sounds like obvious sealioning but I've got a minute so I'll take the bait. If everyone applies that mentality it will almost always lead to the tyranny of the majority. What will cause a group that has even a slim majority to understand and take into account the needs of the minority. How will the majority even know there is a problem if the minority doesn't (as you say) "complain to everyone else". Just like the poster depicted says "so what" about it being gay being a choice, I don't care whether people define that stance as "homophobia". I do care that they understand why they shouldn't do it.

I'll take the bait.

To my understanding, that’s what we call democracy.

What will cause a group that has even a slim majority to understand and take into account the needs of the minority.

The needs of a minority are always taken care of to an extend, that the minority does not annoy the majority. To minimise conflict if you will. And minimising conflict is always in the interest of the minority because it ensures the status quo to the maximum extend possible. An example would be public healthcare. In case of the ultra small minority of homosexuals, there is almost no interest of making them happy in exchange of making the majority (still christians) unhappy.

complains about gay people getting married

"I don't give a damn about homosexuals"

Alright. I am a hypocrite. I am annoyed by all kinds of movement. I can’t stand it to hear everyone complaining.
