The problem is not you might pack a bomb, but something that triggers the TSA agent into thinking about bombs. They're sensitive like teachers looking at a five year old kid who chewed his poptart into a gun and is pew-pew-ing at his peers.

The TSA use to have a trophies page of crap they confiscated because it spooked a TSA agent, and that did not include the things they confiscated because some TSA agent thought he might like a used iPad (or something). It also didn't include any actual bombs.

In fact, the only bombs they ever caught were those planted by the hired pen-testers (and they totally failed to catch most of them).

https://youtu.be/nyG8XAmtYeQ ("Why Airport Security Suddenly Got Better") You just reminded me of this cool Real Engineering video I saw 3 months ago.

In the 80’s, you could bring a little pipe bomb with you.

As a treat for being against them commies?

Happens all the time. I'm sure I left most bombs at home but really all of them?

That's what got Brittney Griner! You never know what little doohickey is hiding in your undergarments. Could be a vape cartridge, could be a pipe bomb.

Right after 9/11 I went to a small Star Wars convention by plane. Of course I had my homemade lightsaber with me in my carry-on. This pipe-like contraption with a red button and a hole you could see random electronic components through.

I was lucky I could keep it through both flights.

I have a fun story: I once traveled (not US) with some family members. My aunt had never boarded an airplane, and was nervous about security staff retaining her or something (she obviously was clear). So, when finally were past security, she exclaimed to my father "Brother, we passed! :D". Security staff heard her and made her come back for extra scrutiny xd

Fun fact, that is a pedobear meme from like 2008

[–] Martineski@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I really don't think that's the same bear.

It's not exactly. It was used in the same context as the one you posted.
