A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

I’ll start first: I’ve read the following physically:

  1. Batman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 1
  2. Marvel Penguin Classics - Spider-Man
  3. Marvel Penguin Classics - Captain America

And lastly, I’ve read this one comic digitally:

  1. Hellboy Omnibus Vol. 4 - Hellboy in Hell

EDIT: I have just finished Hellboy on Hoopla.

Recently finished "The Astounding Wolf-man" vol. 1, and plan to get vol. 2 the next time that I go into town.

I've also had New 52 Batman vol. 4 & 5 (Zero Year Arc) sitting on my desk ready to start the moment that I take a notion. Just haven't been in as much of a comics mood lately as normal.

I recently finished Locke and Key, which blew me away. Such a good series. Does anyone know if Hills other works are as good?

Made my way through the wicked and divine 2 and 3. Love the story, but the cliffhangers keep killing me.

And lastly am slowly working my way through Chris Cleremonts Uncanny Xmen. They are currently meeting Rogue for the first time.

I’ve had the last volume of Locke and Key sitting on my desk for a few weeks now. Just need to make time to read it. I agree the series is really good.

Lots of stuff, probably too much stuff. LOL.

This week?

Ain't No Grave #4 - Cowboy mom hunting Death...

Birds Of Prey #12 - I had doubts after the Themyscyra story, but it's been good!

C.O.W.L. 1964 #1 (Of 3) - C.O.W.L. is a book a lot of people never heard of.There were two good runs before this, all worth reading.

"Chicago Organized Workers League"- the world's first Super-Hero Labor Union

Vol 1 - https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/c-o-w-l-vol-1-principles-of-power-tp

Vol 2 - https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/c-o-w-l-vol-2-the-greater-good-tp

Cyberpunk 2077 Kickdown #2 - The Cyberpunk comics have been better than the game! Nice to see the game caught up!

Doctor Strange #18 - Gotta be honest, was not down for all the "Blood Hunt" nonsense, but I loved Bats coming in for the rescue. Bats is a good dog! Finally back to the non-crossover stuff.

EC Cruel Universe #1 - 2nd title in the EC-Verse!

Gotham City Sirens #1 - Harley, Ivy, AND Catwoman? Yes!

Grendel Devil's Crucible Defiance #2 - Been reading Grendel since "Devil by the Deed" was a backup in Mage(!)

Police Comics #1 (Facsimile Edition) - Reprint of the first Plastic Man!

Shazam #14 - Delightfully wacky!

Space Ghost #4 - SPAAAAAAAAACE GHOOOOOOOOST!

Uncanny X-Men #1 - Here we go again!

I love the doctor strange films, but haven't started any comics on him yet. Do you have a recommendation for a good starting series?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I was never really "into" Doctor Strange until they did the whole "Death of Doctor Strange" where they killed him and found he had an emergency backup from the 1960s who was never updated.

So 60's Strange has to solve his own murder.

Following that was a series just called "Strange" centering on his wife, Clea, and anded when they brought him back to life.

The current run is both of them, and it's been good fun!

Have been collecting a few things illustrated by DaNi. Latest was her "Black Beth: Vengeance Be Thy Name." A fun read!
