Iβve found myself switching to New because of the much smaller community size. Iβd like to participate more than I have in other places. If I wasnβt doing that, Iβd use Active to see what others are saying.

Yeah, same and for the same reason, to be more engaged than I have been elsewhere. I mostly switch between All / New or Subscribed / New. I can see that changing if things get much busier.
I've mostly been using new and top of the last hour or 6 hours
I'm currently sorting on new and trying to contribute on topics that interest me.
I'm using Top 6 Hours since I'm trying to not use my phone that much, and when it gets boring I switch to Hot or New.
Sorting by New is particularly refreshing since the communitoes are smaller and it doesn't feel as a depressing ocean of posts no one will interact with.
I primarily sort by New, but thereβs actually so much new content lately that I miss things that way. Memmy added Top 6 Hours, which Iβm also using now - I like it better than Top Day, as it keeps me from seeing top posts I already saw in the morning when I browse at night, and vice versa.
When I used Reddit, I primarily visited subreddits individually - I might start doing that for the smaller lemmy communities that I want to make sure I donβt miss any posts on, too.
New or top day
Top hour and top 6 hours are my goto options at
I still mostly use Hot, but sometimes switch to New
Same; I believe Hot is bugged however
My "Subscribed" "Hot" currently has 3 items from today and then gets into stuff from months ago.
Seems completely broken to me.
New
I generally stick to Subscribed sorted by Top Hour, Top 6 Hours, Top 12 Hours, then do the same for All. I don't get much out of sorting by Hot since I'm usually more interested to read fresh posts with less active engagement.
I haven't seen any way to hide read posts on either the browser version or on Connect for Lemmy. Is there a service that has that feature or maybe I'll just missing something?
New Comment or New. It keeps my timeline mostly fresh.
Subscribed/New.
