Did anyone get AV1 codec to work via Jellyfin? I can play the file over a USB stick connected directly to the Roku, but just getting audio only when playing via Jellyfin.

I think there's an option in the roku Jellyfin app to enable AV1 playback. I haven't tried it myself, but I have seen it messing around with a few settings.

Works fine here, encoded with handbrake

Hmm. I also encoded with handbrake, maybe an issue with the Roku ultra?

Could be, I have a Roku built in to my TCL TVs, that's what I use. Did you replace an existing file with the av1? I had to rescan my library after swapping my files for it to work, otherwise it gave a playback error.

Can you check in the logs what exactly Jellyfin tries to do? Does it try to transcode for any reason?

[–] CCatMan@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It does are package, remux. Not sure how to prevent this

Remux means the container format you're using isn't supported. The video and audio won't be transcoded, so this should have minimal impact only.

Edit: What container are you using? According to this list every common container format should be supported by roku.

I found the repacking setting under transcoding, let me turn that off and see if the remuxing stops.

Is that a setting specific to the roku client? I wasn't able to find it in the server settings.

No luck, movies that are mkvs require a remux. I checked the logs but could not see the reason for the remux

[–] exu@feditown.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sorry for the late reply. Do mkvs with other codecs (avc or hevc) also remux?

[–] CCatMan@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, from what I can see everything sent to the Roku is being remuxed. I can triple check this, but I know that hevc is.

[–] exu@feditown.com 1 points 1 year ago

I couldn't really find anything on the web that would explain the remuxing :/
Have you tried asking on the Jellyfin forums? The devs probably hang out there and could help further.

[–] CCatMan@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

I'm using MKV, but for whatever reason Jellyfin wants to remux all the MKVs 🤘

I can share the file with you if you want to see what happens? But I'm not going to put that link here lol
