You could win that one though. It was time-able iirc.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago

Yeah well tell that to me when I was 13.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

how do you time something when it uses a random delay?

RNG manipulation to get the initial delay to be exactly what you want. Or just wait a few cycles to see what time table you've been given before you hit the button to stop the scroll.

I don't understand this meme. This mini game was probably the only easy part of my childhood.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

no shit, I won 90% of the time, just click click click, there was a timing trick to win everytime, was not rng.

Nah. It was totally time-able. I nailed this almost every time.

My teenage reflexes didn't care 😂

[–] Schmeckinger@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The first slice is skill based. The second has a chance to pick a adjacent one and the 3rd is basically random.

The proof is in my experience. Now kindly slot off.

[–] mememuseum@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

I love using save states in emulators to win this every time.

LET'S GO GAMBLING!

(after 2nd thing don't line up) AW DANG IT!

[–] FierySpectre@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Seeing as you had about a 3 frame window to line up the middle one (and pure chance to line up the bottom one), don't be too hard on yourself

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

TIL there are people that never learned the timing trick with this game.

[–] PenisDuckCuck9001@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

There's a trick? I thought it was just straight up rigged like casino games where it determines the outcome before you press the buttons.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 2 points 1 month ago

Nope, apparently you can get screwed by RNG, but you were in control. I don't remember it being particularly hard either

"Very rigged and very unfair"

4 lives in world 1? You better figure out you're gonna need those

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

But my therapist doesn't accept Mushroom Kingdom coins as payment!

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

It's so easy to get free guys in Mario 3 that these were kind of pointless. The ones where you could win a hammer bros suit, on the other hand... Those were valuable.

[–] FiniteLooper@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

I feel like I only ever won this like 2 or 3 times total

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

At least you control where it stops and can use skill to always get what you want; unlike a real slot machine.
