DEI is the new N word. It's a racist dog whistle.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 19 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Hold up.

It's also sexist.

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago
[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

It’s literally all forms of bigotry, because anyone of any disadvantaged group could be called “DEI.”

The only group it doesn’t apply to is rich, white, able-bodied, straight, cis, Christian, never-jailed, well -educated men*.

I might have missed an adjective, but you get the idea.

[–] PeepinGoodArgs@reddthat.com 13 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Tim Scott is their DEI bitch, but no one said anything about that.

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

The reason is probably pretty awful and has to do exactly with what @MapleEngineer@lemmy.world was referring to.

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

That other black guy (remember that dude from the McCain/Palin days?), he must be PISSED that he’s lost the role of Token.

EDIT: Michael Steele. Somehow, I dragged that from the recesses of my memory.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Herman Cain? He died from COVID.

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No, that other guy. “Drill, baby, drill!” That guy. He’s a never trumper.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)
[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Yeah, but then Token parroted her.

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 7 points 3 months ago

It's like the N-word and the C-word had a baby, and that baby was raised by all the bad words for Jews.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

its the new woke.

still a dogwhistle though.

theres surely a reason why they regularly change up the terminology like this.

[–] QuantumEyetanglement@lemdro.id 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

OOL... Can someone explain the acronym and the context? 🙈

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Diversity Equality Inclusivity

DEI initiatives have been popular in organizations in the past decade to increase diversity. This angers fascists, so they mock and attack it.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

The E stands for "equity", not "equality".

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Starting to feel it's gone beyond a dog whistle. Most of those are far more low-key, like "thug" or "urban" or "welfare queen". And this one is more clearly defined by facts and usage than "woke".

They might as well come out and say, "This is what comes from hiring n*****s and women!"

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

They're pathetic fucking cowards who won't just say what they mean because they know they can't win running as open racists.

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

This use is a racist fog horn, but otherwise I agree.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 32 points 3 months ago (1 children)

A mediocre politician from a gerrymandered district thinks someone else got an unfair advantage? That's cute.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

The GOP, as always, are hypocrites

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 31 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Attacking her for her race and gender is just lazy.

[–] onlooker@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 months ago

Agreed. It just means they have nothing else to attack her with.

[–] Pringles@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

Attacking her on something else would require a modicum of expert knowledge, which is clearly too much to ask of any GOP member.

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 29 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

It begins... The levels of racism/sexism we are going to see from the GOP over the next few months is going to be wild.

Edit: look at the misogyny already on full display... https://www.instagram.com/p/C9vYle9hpqw/

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

"Months?" With any luck, it'll be years.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago

"When I hear her talk, I just scratch my head and think this is what DEI is really about. It clearly is. She checks all the boxes. She'll say she's of Indian descent one day, then she'll say she's of Black descent. It's just box-checking."

Bro has never heard of multi-racial people? I guess it kind of makes sense when you still live by the "one drop of blood" rule like it's 1816. You're either white or you're wrong to this dumb mother fucker.

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

Guys. I think Rs might be racist.

[–] retrospectology@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

And so it begins, lol.

These idiots can't help themselves, and they don't understand that they're hurting their own chances. Their brains simply aren't wired to comprehend that normal human beings don't respond positively to this stuff.

That didn't take long.

[–] ChillPenguin@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

FUCK, this asshole. Honestly. It's been what... Barely 24 hours and they're already starting with the racist bullshit? It's sickening.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Right out there in the open. No shame at all. Racist fucks.

Edit: also, crazy eyes.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

GOP keeping it classy

[–] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 months ago

He looks like a nepo-baby with no discernable skills to me.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Okay. Feel free to run with that, Republicans. If you vote against DEI, you are going to suffer if you don't look like any of these people in the photo below:

trump and co.

If you are a white woman, you still won't be treated fairly.

[–] nick@midwest.social 6 points 3 months ago

That didn’t take long

[–] sunzu@kbin.run 5 points 3 months ago

These guys never get any less pathetic as we age haha

[–] pingveno@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago

I wonder how much of Congress is there on top of white privilege hires from rich mommy and daddy. Not to mention the sausage fest that is the presidency. Yeah, I'm sure that's almost all white men by merit alone. /s

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 months ago

Now THAT is a punchable face.

[–] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

lol, no. Biden was the DEI vice president.

[–] PowerCrazy@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

Meanwhile Biden's vice president was chosen based on?

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Because who needs a substantiative argument when you've got... Ad Hominem! Co-staring Stawman Argument!

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What I would find hilarious is if Harris then turned around and endorsed Pete B… and the GOP smear machine has to switch attactics yet AGAIN, alienating yet another demographic.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 1 points 3 months ago

Those who worked for McKinsey? That's a very small demographic to worry about.
