That could just be Google’s algorithm predicting what you would most likely search for.

[–] marcus@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah I tried in incognito mode and lemmy didn’t even show up on the list

Yeah, it’s most likely caused by Google profiling OP and showing what it thinks OP wants to see.

Out of interest, I just entered “Reddit vs” into DuckDuckGo (which is a search engine that doesn’t profile its users, and it gets most of its search results from Bing). I got the following search suggestions:

  • reddit vs quora
  • reddit vs twitter
  • reddit vs discord
  • reddit vs anime
  • reddit vs facebook

I can’t believe that anime made the list but Lemmy didn’t lol

I just tried it in incognito and got the same result as OP.

Have you done that search on a privacy respecting browser? Because that search is probably profiled from your data.

FYI - the results you see are unique to you. Other people doing the exact same thing can see a different set of results.

Do you know what criteria Google uses for the results? For example, If I clear cookies in my browser and I'm not logged in, is it using my geographical area?

I have two ISPs, and my router balances between them. One is satellite, so the IP is in a different state. I have noticed a difference in YouTube suggestions based on which connection is being used, but I haven't seen much difference on Google.

Because you have been on Lemmy so they guess you like Lemmy

I too wish to replace Reddit with Subreddit.

Ah yes. My favorite socializing platform, quara. 😎

Who even uses Quora? The interface is such garbage, I can't even tell what's sponsored content and what's not. Sometimes you'll start reading an answer and then realize it's for a different question than the one the page is about.

You can help keep it bumped up just by googling it yourself. While you're there, if anyone feels like it, we could use a review on SourceForge.net which is currently missing some data on our service.

Nice. They really need to fix the Windows PC browsing experience though, the auto filling new posts that pop up and push shit down is gonna really grind any new people's gears. It's almost unusable on a browser right now.

[–] sethboy66@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Already fixed, just hasn’t been implemented.

[–] Itshaysus@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Honestly, can we get other content than Lemmy vs Apollo? I’m here for about 2 days and it’s mostly all just content shit talking about Reddit…

[–] z3n0x@feddit.de 5 points 1 year ago

Be the change you wanna see?

[–] OptimalAutomation@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

That should come in time. Reddit is the main reason many are coming to Lemmy in the first place so that’s what most of the discussions revolve around. As people start to settle in we should see some growth in communities.
