Every single headline about this aid distribution should just read "US still somehow taking orders from nation that only exists because of their support."

The idea that Isreal can block the US from just driving aid over the border is insane. The idea that Isreal can dictate any terms to the US is insane. If the US actually pulled all support, Isreal would be fucked, and they know it. But the US government keeps throwing up its hands and acting like Isreal has them over a barrel.

Magic Jesus says that we have to support Israel in genociding Muslims. Delusion is on tap.

[–] Eyck_of_denesle@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 months ago

It's funny because jesus never even said that but people always do anything to be part of prophecies. Idk if they read their books but the end of the times they are trying to be a part of isn't really a pleasant period to be in.

When it’s one of their only allies in the area …

[–] orcrist@lemm.ee 7 points 4 months ago

Allies like Qatar and Saudi Arabia? ... But even if there were no US allies in the region, then what?

The pointless pier that doesn't solve a problem caused by Isntreal doesn't work?

That's the point. But when Israel demands the Palestinians to be forcefully removed, they will exclaim that the pier can be used to have them ported out. To say, the EU or USA. Since removing them has always been the point. Thatich has been clear since the beginning of their invasion of Gaza, killing 35,000+ and herding them into that direction. The issue is if they will get away with it and the rest of the West will allow it. Or they will demand that Egypt takes them, which they won't unless maybe they get we debt forgiven plus cash. Which I still doubt they will, Egypt is financially broke and has crazy debt anday not want to take millions of refugees.

[–] logging_strict@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Can see the Egyptian POV.

These refugees previously were politically destabilizing Egypt from within. They don't want a repeat of that.

The US is a 3rd party. If Israel deported them it would be a war crime. If the US accepts them onto that pier, it's not.

Solves Egypt and Israel mutual problem.

The US could then push them into Canada. If anything bad happened there, it would be an improvement over the status quo.

[–] Eyck_of_denesle@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 months ago

Egyptians would happily take in more refugees, it's the shitty govt

Can you also see the bullet heading towards you?

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org -3 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Not pointless. We just make them a port...

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Land, Sea, and Air blockade. They can't use the port.

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

damn u right, now they have a port they cant use, but americans can feel better about themselves for trying nothing and being all out of ideas

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 months ago

Israel will use this as an excuse to reduce the number of trucks coming in to zero.

This article doesn't say "but distribution blocked" anywhere, that is OP's invention. They only started receiving shipments today. The article quotes a "US aid chief" as saying other land crossings and humanitarian corridors are still needed in addition to this pier.

[–] filoria@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 months ago

The Associated Press, however, quoted an unnamed UN official as saying distribution of the shipment had not begun as of Friday afternoon.

The Guardian changes titles more frequently than you change underwear.

[–] livus@kbin.social 6 points 4 months ago

It isn't "OP's invention" at all, it's the article's title at the time of first publication. Here is the Guardian announcing the article under its original title.

Maybe spend 5 seconds on a basic search before you accuse people of stuff.

Given that the article says the aid will still have to go through an Israeli checkpoint in order to be sent north (where the worst famine is) I will be amazed if the small amount of aid scheduled to come through this pier doesn't suffer the same distribution blockages as other aid.

[–] logging_strict@lemmy.ml -2 points 4 months ago

No problem. Dump them into Libyan slave markets.

This will free up the pier for more able bodied workers, err i mean, refugees.

Think about beauty of it. The Barbary Pirates of North Africa were targeting US trade during Thomas Jefferson term in office. Forcing the formation of the US Navy.

The US can get back to being ol' friends with them.

And come back history wise full circle

[–] Bookmeat@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Absolutely no one saw this coming

[–] ME5SENGER_24@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (2 children)

So if the Israelis block the aid their weapons packages should also be blocked, right? Not that the US should’ve given them in the first place, but if they’re not gonna let humanitarian aid in, then I guess we should just give the bombs to Palestine

[–] NoIWontPickAName@kbin.earth 1 points 4 months ago

That’s who Israel wants to give them to already.

[–] D61@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago

I wonder how much of that pier was built using the rubble that nobody had time to dig the bodies out of before it was pushed into the water?
