The crew of the Dali, that hit the Baltimore bridge in februari, have been confined to their ship for almost 2 months now while investigations continue. (edition.cnn.com)

The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report about the crash earlier this week, which did not include a probable cause. Those findings will be part of a final report that could take investigators up to two years to complete.

“Without the final report, I don’t think the vessel is going anywhere” far from Baltimore, Duan said.`

In the meantime, he hopes nonessential crew members will be allowed to get off the ship and stay temporarily on dry land to “ease their mental stress.”

They could literally be stuck living on an immobile cargo ship for 2 years. That's insane.

Because none of the crew can step foot on American soil. It's a Singaporean vessel with an Indian and Sri Lankan crew. They don't have visas and so they're denied entry.

The bureaucracy of DHS knows no limits and has no compassion.

Well can’t some other ship from Singapore come by and pickup the crew and take them back?

They don’t have to set foot on American soil for a boat to take them away though. by the way, I can totally accept the possibility that it’s some kind of ridiculous immigrations or customs issue. But if it is, you can’t really infer it just from this article and I’m a little annoyed by that. it seems like the obvious question to ask.

I doubt it's their choice. Probably the prosecution is afraid they'll loose jurisdiction if they disembark

It sounds like the crew are trying to do everything they can to help out and do what's right. I hope that the authorities will take that into consideration when figuring out what to do with the sailors. The situation seems terrible for everyone involved

Failing to rescue them should be illegal. Sorta like how an ER is required to save a life regardless of ability to pay.

They should be paid overtime and extra overtime for their efforts cooperating with the investigation. They should come chill in Canada while they await the results of the investigation. Smoking a few joints with us and having a few Hawaiian pizzas will make the time go by quickly.
