Why remove a feature that helps onboard new users from Reddit?

Think about it. How long will Lemmy be a new backup or alternative to Reddit? It must grow organically at some point to become its own thing. And it has started to. We donβt have an onboard utility for FB, X, TikTok, etc. Authenticity does not evolve from duplicity.
I very much disagree. Like it or not reddit has a large user base. Why not make it simple for people to migrate? All you would be doing is pushing away people from Lemmy. It's not like anyone that has switched to Lemmy is going to drop out because the software allows you to transfer information from an account from a similar site.
That's like taking away the import bookmarks and saved passwords functions on Firefox because you see Chrome and Edge as evil. If you want something you like to be successful, you need to make it convenient for people to try out.
