Blows my mind how (relatively) few people pirate media like TV shows, movies, music and eBooks. Here's hoping more working class people see the light.
Piracy
Welcome to /c/piracy
No netflix or streaming services landlubbers allowed, this is pirates territory.
I don't think pirating stuff is the solution either. Making stuff costs money, if everyone pirated, there would be no contents. I'm not saying with this that I'm OK with all the services we have now but it's hypocritical to say that you shouldn't pay for their services while at the same time saying you should watch what they produce.
I do have one service, one, and I'm not going to have anymore. This one offers me the most fun for every cent I pay and if there are other things that happen in other services I simply don't consume them.
Fun, specially in the form of media products, is not a "right", but a luxury.
However if we talk
If the artist doesnt give you good enough options to enjoy their content, I think it is fair to pirate. If an musician only distribute their music through spotify or if one season of your favourite show is sold for 60 bucks.
Making stuff costs money, if everyone pirated, there would be no contents.
I agree, but I don't think that your hypothetical actually is viable. It won't happen that everyone pirates, it will always just be a few percent, couple 10 percent if it were highest. So I think that it's just a lost business for the big corps which will make them rethink their models.
Tax dollars go towards library access to media and it makes no sense for people to effectively pay twice for said content. I understand you're point but until people start getting paid a livable wage, I'll always advocate for piracy.
I think the real/best solutions are the alternatives... Mostly the FOSS ones
