Comic Books

A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

Recently I decided to give reading comics another chance. I’ve been on hiatus since I was a kid, and ended up starting with “Do a Powerbomb” If you don’t already have this on your reading list I would highly suggest it. High flying action? Check. Over the top climax? Check. Heartfelt ending? Check. The art and story were awesome, and overall just really stoked about it!

I love Daniel Warren Johnson's art, he's currently the artist on Transformers, and it looks amazing. I'll definitely check this one out.

I found his art extremely enjoyable! It was fun look closely at all of the panels, I’m gonna try to read all of his books

I'm gonna give this a look! Thanks for the recommendation. If you haven't already read it before I also recommend Jungle Jim

Cool. Is it fiction or based on a true story?

I'm not much of a wrestling fan. But I do visit my local library often and borrow a few graphic novels each time. So much great stuff out there.

It’s fiction / fantasy. I’m not a wrestling fan but I did enjoy it as a kid. I would say an interest in wrestling isn’t required at all to enjoy this one. It’s a pretty quick read so not a huge commitment by any means. I never thought about looking for graphic novels at the library, that’s a great idea!

Cool yah. And I just looked for this at my library (in the US) and they don't have a paper copy, but I can borrow it online via the app they subscribe called Hoopla.

PSA: For all of y'all, Hoopla is a grrrrreat way to read comics and graphic novels on your phone or tablet, if the service is available to you. Check with your local library to see if they subscribe. Many do, in the US.
