Who would have guessed, that a deeply and openly racist party would have trouble connecting with black voters?

But they have spray painted sneakers!? And we all know, because Trump never lies, that black people love sneakers! /s
And mugshots /s (I feel terrible even posting that facetiously, but it's something he's actually said 🤦♂️)
I can't imagine the cognitive dissonance it takes to be a black/gay/female Republican.
I'd love to see a discussion with them. "Members of your own party actively hate you to the point where they don't even recognize you as a human being... why do you stay with them? Is it just the money?"
Its wild right? The answer lies in developmental psychology and the fear center of the brain. Literally an overactive fear response overriding basic survival instinct. They have no clue that when they are no longer useful theyll be first against the wall. Truly sheep amongst wolves.
Fake news! How could the GOP be struggling to reach black people? They have sneakers and crime on their side!
/s because both of these things have been mentioned by Republicans as reasons black people will vote for them
Except that the shots of the crowd showed that the attendees were mostly white? (Jimmy Kimmel)
I saw that bit also, which stands out as no one else has reported this that I've seen, (would appreciate some additional linkage if any is around.) It was a short clip next to the stage, and so I could imagine Trump's favorite demographic being seated in the back.
Black conservative should be an oxymoron. The republican party isn't really about conservative values in almost any sense. Seems more like it's about hate and creating fear and xenophobic tendancies, then giving tax breaks to the wealthy.
All these black conservative voices are all trying to live in the house, and it shows.
That’s what’s mind blowing. A vote for Reagan at least got middle class America lower taxes - screw the rest of the country, at least you’ll get yours, right?
Republicans today willingly vote for simple bigotry and a ‘strongman’ to project themselves onto.
He received a Champion of Black America award?
💀💀💀💀💀
Did you know you can just make up an award? No one can stop you.
I hereby bestow upon you the "Champion of Lemmy for 2024-02-28" award.
Congrats!
Whaaaaaat
So lucky I can't believe they won an award, that's so prestigious
This is the best summary I could come up with:
“No amount of media deception or liberal race-baiting will sway the minds of Black voters who will cast their ballots this November for safer streets, a better financial well-being, a secure border, and a complete rejection of Joe Biden’s disastrous tenure,” Johnson said.
At a time when Republicans have signaled greater interest in making inroads with communities of color, the dinner served as an opportunity to highlight the GOP’s pitch to Black voters.
And I just hope and pray that a lot more female Blacks will come to the light and come to the truth,” said Alvin Portee Jr., a Columbia resident who attended the gala in a suit and top hat bearing Abraham Lincoln’s face.
In a winding speech, Trump claimed “the Black people like me” because of his numerous criminal indictments and mug shot taken as part of the ongoing election interference case in Georgia.
Haley, Trump’s last standing presidential primary rival, called the gala speech “disgusting,” while President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said the comments were “insulting,” “moronic” and “plainly racist.”
Vivian Childs, a GOP activist and business owner who traveled to the event from Warner Robins, Georgia, said she took no issue with Trump’s sometimes clumsy attempts to appeal to Black voters.
The original article contains 1,247 words, the summary contains 209 words. Saved 83%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
Maybe the slogan “vote GOP ni**er!” didn’t resonate the way they’d hoped.

It's only a little funny seeing just how many people in attendance were actually black.
