Now I'm no political expert, but "black people will actively vote the Nazis back into power because they want sneakers" just doesn't quite sound accurate to me... Maybe I'm missing something here?

[–] Granite@kbin.social 54 points 6 months ago

It’s the racism.

[–] Jaysyn@kbin.social 20 points 6 months ago

You're missing the christofascist brainworms.

Can you be sure though? We really just don't know how WW2 would have turned out had Adolf rolled out a line of slick high-top basketball shoes.

It would have been economical too, as after killing the wearers he could regift them.

In all seriousness, there's something darkly hilarious to the notion of a bunch of racists trying to take over the country ending up foiled by the inaccuracy of their own dearly held stereotypes.

Actually given the Nazis rose to power on a wave of excellent fashion, we do.

[–] Coreidan@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It’s propaganda. That’s what you’re missing.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

OH it's propaganda, that changes everything! it's gotta be true! - someone out there

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

I mean at this point in the timeline I wouldn't be surprised if this actually happens. Not because of racism, but because humans in general always do the stupidest possible thing at any given opportunity.

Bet a dollar that the campaign bought all the stupid shoes. Watch for them being handed out a donor events. Nifty little way to have the campaign pay his legal fees.

[–] ZeroCool@slrpnk.net 21 points 6 months ago

Yeah some sort of shenanigans like that would not surprise me, especially because the shoes don’t even exist. The fine print claims they might ship in July lol.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

the campaign bought

That's not how money laundering works. Russia buys the shoes through a shell company and then donates them to the campaign for their actual value of almost $0. Then the campaign hands them out and trump gets the Russia money.

This is nothing new. A lot of "political " books end up on best seller list because PACs pre-order them in bulk then give them out to donors. About twenty years ago the NYT started putting an asterisk Next to books on their best seller list that got there using this method

Wrong sub. I think you wanted to post this in "theonion" cause even fox hosts cant be that stupid.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 31 points 6 months ago (2 children)

When I first heard about it, I genuinely thought it had to be a fake story. And now I wish it was.

[–] agent_flounder@lemmy.world 13 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I'm still hoping to wake up and find it is still October, 2016.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

Man, I would be so happy to find out everything since then was just a gnarly fever dream.

[–] thecrotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

You really want to live through that shit again?

[–] Zitronensaft@feddit.de 3 points 6 months ago

The point is that it would be better as a nightmare that never truly happened instead of our present reality.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It is probably, mostly, a fake story.

My guess is he had some list of reasons black voters would vote for trump, and happened to mention the sneakers as an afterthought.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The thing is, it's not. You can watch the entire video, without edits. It's as racist and banal as it sounds.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Where’s the video? I can’t see the article

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

Here's the video, straight from Fox itself: https://www.foxnews.com/video/6347175332112

(Ugh, I feel dirty sharing a Fox link, but I don't want asshats coming out of the woodwork declaring it's taken out of context or some bullshit.)

Guy looks like a wax museum version of PeeWee Herman.

"Black people don't care about politics or human rights, they only care about sneakers!"

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 17 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Jesus man, these folks are addicted to lying. They adore their dear leader's lies, and must perpetuate lies amongst each other (and to themselves) to maintain the faux reality.

This part of history will be called "the dark ages of politics" or something similar...

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

While we’re being skeptical of lies, let’s analyze this headline a bit:

Fox News Star: Black People Will Vote for Trump Because ‘They Love Sneakers’

First obvious question is: why are the quote marks only around the sneakers part? Did he not say the rest of it?

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmy.world 16 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Look at this Buster Bluth-lookin' ass motherfucker.

"Fox" "News" " Star"

Not a star, not news, and I'm beginning to suspect that he's not even a real fox.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

He obviously uses the same leeching brain poison hair dye as Rudy Giuliani.

While it makes both he and Rudy look like virile teenagers (😂), their synapses are astonishingly stunted.
