The app is available in the US now. It links to appropriate Apple News articles, Streaming services, has scoreboards and more.

Makes me curious if we see Apple lean more into live sports for their Apple TV+ packages, especially with the NBA contract coming up to match their current MLS and MLB offerings

Hopefully this gets sports out of the news app. I rather use that spot for the crossword personally and I hate that those tabs are unchangeable.

Does this mean we will be able to get rid of the stupid “Sports” button in the News app?

You would think that this would make it redundant but who knows? I’d guess not anytime soon since the sports app doesn’t have any actual news in it despite claiming the opposite in the press release.

So far the app is pretty barebones. Some things don’t make any sense like having to open up a game summary to be able to see standings rather than each league having their own standings page.

I also don’t see any links to news or streaming services but maybe that integration is coming soon…

No NFL? I don't care that it's the offseason. It dwarves every other US sport. Not having it to select day one is odd.

Edit: "yesterday" instead of "recent games" is just as weird.

No NFL or CFB is really strange, I just chalked it up being the offseason but the WNBA is in the offseason and it’s still listed. As well as MLB despite it just being the start of spring training

I'm guessing they're the leagues they have some rights to. But even assuming they have it solved way before football season it dampens my interest a bunch.

I read elsewhere it will be there when the season starts.
