I mean Henry Ford is no saint either

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 33 points 1 year ago (2 children)

yeah, pretty sure he was a nazi

[–] ComradeSalad@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

He was most definitely a Nazi

[–] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I heard in a Citations Needed episode that he funded schools so they would teach country music and tap dancing to children to suppress the cultural permeation of jazz music and some other non-white genre.

[–] ComradeSalad@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Exactly. He despised jazz and black Americans. That cultural permeation of tap dancing still remains to this day in fact.

[–] ihaveibs@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 year ago

Damn now I know why that stupid fucking dance has such a large cultural cachet

[–] FistOfTheRedStar@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I thought he hated country to? I was under the impression he funded squaredancing since country music was to socialists, which successfully undermined that cultural movement.

I don't have a primary source but:

In order to bring his dream to life, Ford poured tons of money into square dancing and country music in general.

There's quite a bit more about his Nazi ties in this article by Losurdo.

[–] BelieveRevolt@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Kind of a chicken and the egg thing, since his anti-Semitic book The International Jew influenced the Nazis.

Nazism and it’s tenants have existed for a long time, the Nazis just gave the concentrated ideology a name.

lol this is trying to make Ford look good. You found a lib meme.

I guess the moral of the story is that US is a fascist state since people like Ford are openly praised 🤣

VW founded and designed but Porsche

[–] ComradeSalad@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Porsche made Nazi tank designs that were so laughably bad that they were accused of sabotage and treason. I.E the Ferdinand.

They weren’t really, they were just that dogshit at making tanks.

[–] Magos_Galactose@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For all the fault of the actual Tiger, it's an okay design, unlike the literal garbage that is Porsche Tiger.

To put it in perspective, Porsche prototype for what would become the "Tiger" fat tank were rejected due to being overcomplicated, overweight, and underpowered by the German. Let that sink it.

[–] ComradeSalad@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The tiger was not an ok design. It was downright horrifically awful. There's a 5,000 number long list with its faults and failures. There's a reason that Germany ceased production of it after a year, it was basically already obsolete by the time it was deployed.

There’s a 5,000 number long list with its faults and failures.

As I said, a relatively okay design...for the Nazi German.

[–] ComradeSalad@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Eh, not really. Germany had substantially better tanks then the Tiger, hence it being phased out quickly. And yes, the vast majority of Germany’s tank fleet was below average, but even compared to those models the Tiger was just that awful.
