This was disgusting and powerful to read. These types of details about the enslavement of a race not so many generations ago really paint a picture of the persecution of Black people in America. I had never heard of Sugar House or work houses in general. The treatment of trafficked black people is horrifying and to think how much retribution has happened in Germany after the holocaust compared how little has been done in the US is a disgrace.

Yeah, right-wingers are trying to suppress people being educated about this part of American history. They don't want people to sympathize with the victims of the slavery era.

It was an awful time and we as a nation need to do better.
