Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

Your completely disconnected from your own sexuality and should refrain from engaging in sexual activities with others until you work on that part of yourself.

It's for tacos as well.

All comments show this is an unpopular opinion. Bit more down votes than up votes.

People have forgotten how this community works.

It's not unpopular at all. Western society (and probably every other place too, but the English Internet is what i know) is going puritan again, and it's always had a heavy dose of shame regarding sexuality.

It's useful when I'm single or my girlfriend is away/not horny. I get stupid when I'm pent up, it's not worth the risk

You don't have to like things that other people like. That's fine. Being different is okay

What is the motivation for anyone to change your mind? State your reasons why you think porn is for losers, and I bet there'd be a lively discussion.

I even gpt'd it for you

Arguments Suggesting Pornography Is For "Losers"

  1. Dependency and Escapism: Some might argue that relying on pornography for sexual satisfaction can indicate an inability to form or maintain real-life intimate relationships, viewing this dependency as a form of escapism from real-world challenges.

  2. Impact on Mental Health: There's a perspective that excessive consumption of pornography might lead to mental health issues, including depression or anxiety, particularly if it becomes a substitute for genuine human connection.

  3. Perpetuation of Unrealistic Expectations: Pornography often portrays unrealistic body standards and sexual performances, which can lead to distorted expectations in real-life relationships, potentially isolating individuals from genuine connections.

  4. Potential for Addiction: Like other forms of compulsive behavior, an addiction to pornography can be seen as a detrimental pattern that interferes with daily life and responsibilities, which some might label as a "loser" behavior.

  5. Social Stigma: In many societies, consuming pornography is still stigmatized. Individuals who are publicly known to consume pornography might be unfairly labeled as "losers" due to societal prejudices.

Arguments Against the Notion That Pornography Is For "Losers"

  1. Sexual Exploration and Education: For many, pornography serves as a tool for sexual exploration and education, offering a safe space to understand one’s preferences and desires without judgment.

  2. Normalizing Desires: Pornography can help individuals feel that their sexual desires are normal and shared by others, reducing feelings of isolation or shame associated with certain fantasies or preferences.

  3. Enhancement of Sexual Relationships: Couples might use pornography as a way to enhance their sexual relationship, using it as a form of inspiration to explore new fantasies or improve communication about desires.

  4. Stress Relief: Like other forms of entertainment or relaxation, pornography can offer a form of stress relief, providing a temporary escape from the pressures of daily life.

  5. Freedom of Choice and Expression: Consuming pornography can be seen as an exercise of personal freedom and expression. Labeling individuals as "losers" based on their private choices can be viewed as judgmental and infringing on personal liberties.

Conclusion

It's crucial to recognize that the debate around pornography and its consumers is complex and multifaceted. Arguments can be made from various perspectives, including psychological, sociological, and ethical viewpoints. Engaging in this debate requires an open mind and a respectful approach towards differing opinions and personal choices.

My personal conclusion is that you sound like a fuckwit.
