For me it feels like breaking up with someone after many years. At the same time, I feel a bit dirty mentioning the name in the post title.

Honestly? Yes. That said, this seems nice. I just wish I still had RES. Does anyone know of a way that I could have images open on the page instead of having to open them in a new tab? That's bugging me a lot.

The sad part is potentially losing all the information, communities, etc. You can pretty much expect any company to go bad, so it makes no sense to get attached to a company.

On one side yes, on the other side I see it as an opportunity to spend more time being active and or outside doing things that are truly good for myself.

A little sad, but I am not as attached to specific communities online. I’ve seen subreddits rise and fall too, so this just feels like another chance to find something new.

I do. I’ve gotten so much value out of it. I ended up deleting my account and comments to give as much teeth to all of this as I can, and while I realize there’s not a lot of value for me personally in my history, it does make me sad for the knowledge lost. I think it’s necessary for Reddit to feel enough pain to change course (if they will at all) but it still makes me sad.

I'm sad, as my account is many years old since digg days. But I hardly comment or post, and dgaf about karma, so I am considering deleting in total rather than just stop using. At the same time, I'm interested to know how it'll play out.

Like Netflix, despite the public outcry, we may well see that reddit is still alive and well after this. /shrug.

Not really, I just miss some of the subs that I used to frequent. Most of them already exist somewhere in the Fediverse and just need to gain some traction. The other thing I miss is my app, RedReader, but the author has plans to extend it to support Lemmy or similar in the future so I'm good.

[–] RegalOne@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Same as you OP. Lots of years and lots of memories. But it's for the best and I'm looking for something fresh.

My Reddit account was turning 16 in August (that's older than some Redditors I'm sure!). It was a wild ride, back in the days where Reddit worshiped Ron Paul, and the entire front page was "Upvote if !", to today's mess. Kinda bittersweet yes but a change and some competition is long overdue!

more irritated than anything - mostly because there arent a lot of lemmy apps on android yet. it'll get better in ~6 months

[–] SeaJay@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Not really... I was looking for a way out for a while - I feel like I wasted too much of life there already and I'm now looking to cut back on social media time overall. Although I am a fan of putting "site:reddit" on my search queries, not sure what I'll do about that...

[–] Batbro@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I'm excited, I've been fediverse curious for a while. This gives the power back to the people

[–] poofbirb@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

no I fucking hate Reddit

[–] shizuka@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah Reddit has a lot of really valuable communities that are not ruined imo. For some of those niche communities the other option for discourse/information is Tiktok which I don't like because the discourse is super fragmented and hard to follow.

[–] ericflo@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it's a lot of value destroyed and many communities and individuals will never make the switch. It's a sad thing, even if there is new opportunity as we see with Lemmy.

[–] FreddyNO@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Honestly it feels refreshing

[–] tookmyname@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Ya. But I’m kind of relieved. Place has been pretty toxic and the content has been getting more and more lame. I’m excited to be somewhere new and start fresh. Maybe reverse some of the bad habits that are contagious with how I engage too.

Not at all, I'm glad open alternatives are getting attention!
