Wow, so yeah, you obviously enrage people when you say something ridiculously dumb and behave like you know it better. That's just called being an asshole.

you could just not engage ┐( ∵ )┌

sharks are smooth. my uncle is a shark and he said so

[–] BeanGoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Bullshit. Everyone knows sharks dont really exist. It's all a ploy by IKEA to sell more plushies.

[–] retrolasered@lemmy.zip 11 points 9 months ago

Everyone thinks ikea is swedish but its actually the dutch doing research and development for new lego but they pretend they are swedish so noone steals their designs

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

You think IKEA exists?

OK but you have to recognize that this is being an asshole in a different way. Don't do either of these things preferably

No, you don't understand.

First, you act like a moron

Then, you piss some people off

Well, seems like someone felt the need to compulsively correct a another's statement and establish their authority on the subject. They should really warn people about this..

Or maybe it's because the truth matters and spreading disinformation is bad.

I'm a female-passing (afab agender but that's beside the point) physicist. I do this when men (honest to god it's always been men so far) explain something to me that i obviously know better. Like for example they'll know I'm a physicist but explain to me that water boils at a lower temperature in the mountains or something like that. I'll just play a game to see just how dumb i can get them to think i am. Pretty dumb is usually the answer.

They reenact the "crying woman yelling at stubborn cat" meme perfectly.

I tend to adopt the view that my words aren't just distracting sounds that come from a hole in my face and try to extend the trust and courtesy to others.

I don't think it's generally very nice to say things we don't mean to wind people up. you can just say "I think you're being a wanker, pull your head in" instead of whatever this is.

So glad I grew out of being a know-it-all. Now I just do it when I want to be an asshole.

Generally I have found people are usually not capable of moving on if someone challenges their ego or beliefs, even when it is apparent that the person is just being contrarian or otherwise doing it to get under their skin.

[–] Fontasia@feddit.nl 3 points 9 months ago

I have fixed this by becoming arrogant in the reverse way, unless I am the dumbest person in the room, I want to leave.

"Oh you want me teach you about what I know? Fuck you? You want to teach me everything you know about shellfish? Sign me the fuck up."
