Long story short, my current steam deck only works when output to hdmi aka docked. It started happening right after i swapped the original buttons for extremerate clear buttons. I've tried everything, nothing has solved it so Valve quoted my RMA for $180. But they specified that they wanted me to then remove the extremerate buttons and put in the original buttons. I've never taken apart a steam deck before this so it took WAY longer than the average person. Is it worth going through Valve RMA or just buying another deck for cheap and having someone install the extremerate buttons correctly? Does such a service exist online?

Thanks

It doesn't sound like it's a problem with the buttons, it sounds like you disconnected the screen during your original install.

You already took it apart once, sit down with a guide and do it again only this time pay attention to the screen connectors. Unplug, verify direction, re-plug. Try it again.

Failing that, put the buttons back in and RMA it.

Or, buy a replacement and sell that one cheap as a "fixer upper."

I've taken it apart 8 separate times to figure out where if any ribbon cables got unplugged. They're all plugged in. So i'm stumped.

Sounds like you damaged one of the ribbon cables. They can be very fragile sometimes.

Could be a power cable for the screen as well. And as usual, check both ends of the cable and make sure it's tight and right side up.
