It didn't even make sense from their stated goals.
Indiscriminated bombing has been their policy for decades. Bomb yemenis until either they are all dead or until the unrest causes a civil war.

The thought process is that they would destroy the Houthis ability to launch these attacks, so the red sea crossing would be safe again. I don't know how plausible that is, but it does make sense to me.
