I was told that you're supposed to use the left shift key for typing caps for letters with the right hand and use the right shift key to type caps for letters with the left hand. I don't know anyone who does that.

That's what I was taught in elementary school typing class. I type like that if I'm typing something long, but for short things I favor the left key.
That makes an enormous amount of sense, and I don't think I could ever teach myself to do it
I learned to type on a typewriter and that's what I was taught. I didn't follow it at all
What's worse is when you can feel the crunchy mechanical key because the lube hasn't yet spread out in the right shift key
