In lifftoff it is hidden feature. Under three dots -> view on another instance
you can reply from another account

Bear in mind Liftoff is probably going to stop working with Lemmy 0.19 so don't get too attached to it 😢

[–] Contort3860@links.hackliberty.org 3 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Is the project actually dead or is this an assumption based on lack of recent updates? I'm using liftoff and have been wondering about its future.

[–] thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

A couple of people have tried to get in touch with the dev to no avail. It's already broken for users on the couple of servers that are using 0.19 so only a matter of time for the rest of us, it seems.

Thanks for the reply. Sucks to hear it since it's been the best app for me so far. Any app recommendations for a replacement?

[–] thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago (2 children)

There's a thread in !liftoff@lemmy.world where people are recommending their fave replacement but tbh pretty much every app gets at least one mention, which one is best probably depends on your priorities!

None of them really meet all my needs (neither did Liftoff, I had to combine it with Summit), so I'm trying to help out by testing !raccoonforlemmy@lemmy.world in the hopes that it could become my holy grail.

[–] Contort3860@links.hackliberty.org 1 points 11 months ago

I'll be checking that out thanks.

  • Good support for multiple accounts
  • Easy on the eyes, which means among other stuff none of that forced solid black background stuff as it gives me a headache
  • Customisable text for similar reasons to the above
  • Easy to post & reply & generally interact with people (some apps make it real difficult to continue a convo from your inbox, for example)
  • Basic mod capabilities
  • Multi-communities are a big bonus (this is why I keep Summit installed)

Generally I prefer more features over slick looks which I think is where a lot of people go the other way. Probably depends if you post a lot or are more of a scroller. I currently have 11 apps installed so will just keep testing them all out until one wins, lol.

Tried Jerboa again recently. Didn't love it but I'll probably check it out again at some point.

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's definitely a bit rough around the edges but personally I like it more than most of the others I've tried

[–] Contort3860@links.hackliberty.org 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's developed by the main Lemmy dev as far as I understand. Closest thing to an 'official' app we've got. But other apps just suit me better ATM. I'm still testing different apps now and then since the apps are still rapidly being developed and dying out. Settled on Liftoff initially, but I remember liking Thunder and so far Raccoon is looking promising.

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I do want to branch out again trying other apps as Jerboa (while nice) I feel is lacking a bit

It's functional enough but kinda meh

I like the UI though

[–] Contort3860@links.hackliberty.org 2 points 11 months ago

Yeah it seems a little spartan. But, it's probably going to be the most up-to-date whenever there is an update to Lemmy itself since it's the same dev.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago

I don't think there's been any confirmation but with a breaking update looming it's not looking promising.

[–] DieguiTux8623@feddit.it 9 points 11 months ago

Most apps support multi-account but I think what the OP is asking for is the ability to switch account just for replying on a post/comment and for that reply only or when composing a post in a community, while continuing to use the main account afterwards.

[–] t0m5k1@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Boost for lemmy is what I use. Just add your accounts and then change the account.

[–] ConstipatedWatson@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Eternity does that too, when you click on the comment button you can change the account from within the comment

[–] pacjo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 11 months ago

Oh, that works. Never noticed that.

[–] florge@feddit.uk 6 points 11 months ago

Think Eternity can do it

[–] Eideen@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

~~Sync ~~did ~~support it~~, now you need to be in the account that you wanted to reply as before hand.

Play store link: Sync for Lemmy

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Wait, it does? I remember Sync for Reddit did but I don't see it here.

[–] Eideen@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

You need to be in the account you want to use before opening post.

You are correct change who you are posting as at commenting time, is not a feature.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 3 points 11 months ago

Eternity does

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Summit lets you switch user from most pages, so I can switch user when reading these comments but not actually while typing the comment

[–] hiramfromthechi@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Yeah, I mean changing accounts right before writing the comment would work. Doesn't need to be able to switch in the middle of writing the comment.
