Parts pairing- does that refer to shit like how Apple used to pair their home button to the serial number of the phone so you couldn't replace it? Or how old Xboxes (idk about new ones) would pair the disc drive to the motherboard? About fucking time if so.

[–] Adanisi@lemmy.zip 31 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Yes. Yes it does.

It took them long enough.

Unfortunately, I think it excludes game consoles.

[–] FlaminGoku@reddthat.com 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Curious how california did this as well.

Doesn't it open the door for every company to claim that their product is a game console as long as it can play snake or some shit?

[–] Railcar8095@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Apple is preparing to register the iPhone 16 as an Air Frier just to push this for a year

[–] hillbicks@feddit.de 8 points 1 year ago

Yup, that's it, at least from my understanding.

What would we DO without EU

[–] FishFace@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm so glad we left, what good did they ever do /s

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What good have the Romans ever done for us anyway?

[–] LinuxSBC@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Apart from helpful laws, easy travel, a consistent currency, consumer and employee protections, more negotiation authority, and humanitarian aid, what has the EU ever done for us?

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] FatTony@discuss.online 6 points 1 year ago

Which was like the original reason for the creation of the EU.

[–] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What would we without EU

Spend our time learning to type? 😜

[–] Drinvictus@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 year ago

Do you know the difference between EU and Europe?

The EU didn't even exist yet during most of those. And where it does it's still something different.

[–] Lileath@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think that they share your opinion and are saying that there were way fewer conflicts between EU-members than there would have been without it.

[–] Kissaki@feddit.de 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Now that you point it out, I can see that that may be what they were saying.

[–] 768@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I should've explained my point a bit more.

[–] Kissaki@feddit.de 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

apply to ten categories of products that are currently covered by ecodesign requirements: smartphones and tablets, bicycles (including e-bikes), washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, fridges, displays, welding equipment, vacuum cleaners and servers.

[–] Kerb@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 1 year ago (2 children)

thats dissapointing.

those categories are way to specific,
these laws should apply to way more stuff.

smartphones and tablets?
why not computers in general?

and john deere execs are pobably laughting their asses of right now.

[–] HarkMahlberg@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

I wish the US had anything even close to this level of consumer protections and rights.

[–] BastingChemina@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 year ago

I prefer having an ambitious law right now, even if it only cover a limited amount of products, than a law that try to cover everything but takes decades to be approved.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 18 points 1 year ago

The EU for the save...again...

[–] random65837@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Im 100% against the way Apple implemented that system, but as a consumer, there SHOULD be a non invasive, not nagging way for the phone to tell me that it detects shitbag garbage Chinese parts that'll most likely break on me.

The amount of phones in the used market loaded with trash parts that die on people are very real. I've gambled on 2 screens myself for older phones I just wanted to keep alive, both failed, one totally, one can't do multi touch anymore, both within 6mo. I knew the chance I was taking, a buyer on eBay or Swappa wouldn't have, especially if I left that out of the description.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What exactly do you think your Apple phone is made of in the first place?

[–] random65837@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

LOL, never dealt with China manufacturing huh? I'd assume you're not foolish enough to compare the plants making things FOR Apple, vs the knockoff shops that are selling displays for $80.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If I buy components I buy extra and test them myself before use. I don't buy anything used that I can get new and I test before I use. Now my hobbies seldom require me to play with surface mount, and i don't need displays for anything, but I'm plenty familiar with ordering from one end of the QC department or the other. All that said, you have a far higher opinion of Apple than I do.

[–] random65837@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

No sure what you're basing anything of that on, my opinion of Apple is that they suck shit. None of that has anything to do with their products are made right and with quality, vs cut rate shit that breaks constantly.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 1 points 11 months ago

I've owned two things produced by them. Both were trash out of the box, but perhaps I got "Monday " built devices both times. One came to me as a gift one I bought because my kid asked for it. Both were returned and I have not looked at an apple product since. My only experience is that they are knock offs of themselves and at their price point someone should be ashamed of themselves. My opinion of your opinion stands downvote me again if you want.

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That would require capitalists to want to protect your investment. That's not how capitalists think.

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Ignore the truth all you want. What was the technology invented for? It's FULLY capable of doing what you ask.

Why doesn't it? Because it was made to protect profits, not the end buyer. Yea it sucks, but ignoring it means it will be even worse the next time I have to point it out to your ignorant ass.

[–] random65837@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not interested in your Socialist ramblings. I'm sorry you failed in life and therefor need to constantly cry about businesses, all while probably expecting to be paid for your work. Unless you don't work for pay and only volunteer, don't bitch about people making money.

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Funny how you go to person insults. Sad. Pathetic. Stay ignorant, you won't be spared.

[–] random65837@lemmy.world -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Funny how you shoehorn your hatred for capitalism into a conversation that not talking about that. "Sad, pathetic".....

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Your inability to wrestle with reality will not help.

[–] random65837@lemmy.world -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Ya, damn reality. Like that if businesses don't make money, they go out of business. Or that when that happens people lose jobs. Without jobs thwy can't live. Or even better, when both of those happen your socialist house of cards also crumbles because then people can't be taxed at 4x the rate to pay for all that "free" stuff they "give" you.

Stupid reality.....

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not the point I made, but then you've already proven to be too stupid to listen.

[–] random65837@lemmy.world -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You took an unrealated thing and decide to start and anticapitalist rant, your "point" was very clear.

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Yep, you're still not paying attention. Sad.
