The quality on PeerTube relies very much on the instance that you are on. So choosing the right instance for your channel is very important and determines whether the experience is good or not. Check which instance your instance is following. A number of higher quality content PeerTube instances federate which each other (e.g diode.zone, linuxrocks, share.tube and spectra.video) and therefore provide a good experience in terms of content. TILvids doesn't follow any other instance but has a good number of high quality channels. If you're not happy with your current instance I suggest to delete your channel and move to one of the instances mentioned above.
Peertube
A free software to take back control of your videos
Peertube is an open, federated alternative to Youtube without advertising or tracking. On this site, you can find a good Peertube instance, with good rules, good moderation and most importantly a friendly community.
tilvids is the best one out there, unfortunately I won't be doing much TIL videos due to my own laziness.

I'm on diode.zone at the moment, but if you had to recommend me something I'd like to have place with essayists about games or whatever. so I could have some kind of competition; that said I haven't seen any of this kind of content creator that is remotely serious or put in some kind of effort, other than well, linux youtubers.
I won't learn much what kind of videos before I try several things, though.

Diode.zone is fine but if you compare it with TILvids you'll notice that the latter is more curated. Just compare the Recently Added page from both. So if your videos are good and you don't mind that TILvids isn't federating you could consider moving to TILvids.
I haven't seen much quality game essayist on Peertube (perhaps Boiling Steam or Zed at the ShovelWarehouse) probably due to the fact that PeerTube is tiny compared to YT. I can only hope it will grow in time.
well about tilvids... I just also don't like the fact that they deny instance following; inherently making other' instances potential quality to be much lower since the majority of good creators are there. I'm not about to contribute if my videos doesn't spread like a virus throughout the internet, too.
For now I could talk to scanlime (owner of diode.zone) and do some improvements, like educating people for tagging, or theming the instance.
... Boiling Steam or Zed at the ShovelWarehouse ...
thanks
I think TILvids not allowing follows is very weird
yeah I think we should talk to them. care to join me on this one later? (if for some reason that I alone can't convince them)
No sorry, good luck. I have asked them in the past I believe and they had their reasoning. I think they want to control where people see their videos
but, why, when It's generally bad for the rest of peertube's content?
I don't know
As a content creator, if you don't think the current instances are good enough or doesn't revolve around a topic you are interested in, I encourage you to create your own peertube. You can easily host peertube through Spacebear Federation. However, the lowest cost is 20$ a month, so it isn't for everyone.
Think of what kind of content you can be enthusiastic about and create an instance for it that you believe others can be interested in as well.
I for instance am a juggler and I believe I can put out juggling content consistently. I therefore created a norwegian instance to promote earthspace mastery. An instance where you can inspire, give good excercises and network. You can post about playing the guitar, handstanding, singing or whatever.
These instances should revolve around the community. And connecting the content creators to each other will be essential for the instance success. I believe your focus should be networking when creating content, not views.
I believe one should make the instance as thematic as possible. Modify the CSS to make the instance feel different.
Here are two (norwegian) instances I have created for demonstration:
. Moder vår.
However, the text format may not be ideal for communicating my own or your ideas, so let me know if you are interested in having a voice chat instead.

I've actually been going around and round and kind of feeling alienated because of the fact that I haven't been able to really find anyone who has much common interests. Probably better to self-host and let people come in this situation, anyway here's what I'm interested in atm.
- gaming (commentary)
- in-depth gaming reviews/essays
- Anime & Manga
- Post-internet Music
- Art
- Voice-Acting
- VR
- The Fediverse (I'll probably talk about the history of it relating to the internet)
- Internet specific content aka talk about making blogs, webcomics, webnovels. what-have-you
earthspace mastery
what is this by the way?

We can talk later, sure. However I'm still thinking whether or not doing something as making an instance, I'm not used to being some sort of owner/leader of something, I think It's better to do it together with other people. anyway you use matrix?
I see that you have a solid set of interests. That's great!
earthspace mastery
It's a contrast to cyberspace. In other words it's the offline realm:P
I've given you a pm:)
