I'm unclear if you're familiar with the Marathon IP, and just discovered the new game they're making, or if you're just discovering Marathon as a whole, but if it's the latter, you might be interested to find out that there were 3 games in the Marathon series already, released back in the 90s, around the same time as Doom / Doom 2, and they were incredible, as one of if not the first FPS with a heavy focus on storyline over just run and gun shooting. What's more, you can play them for free, through this open-source engine that runs the original map files, and has been endorsed by the game's original creators.

Well damn. I loved the original trilogy and I have been saying for ages that I want a remake using modern game design and technology. But based on that website and trailer, I don’t think I’m getting what I wanted. Marathon had a multiplayer mode, yes, but the core was a single player story that made you feel like you were all alone in the world. This looks like not that.

The trailer is amazing and I trust Bungie to create something that looks and feels incredible. Their art team is one of the best and they just understand gunplay.

However, PvP extraction shooter? That part makes me think I will not enjoy this at all.
