Gorillaz – Sweepstakes
Plastic Beach is my favorite album but I always skip that track cuz it's so grating

[–] AscendantSquid@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Dang, for me it's Glitter Freeze. I can definitely see Sweepstakes being grating though

[–] janus2@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 10 months ago

Glitter Freeze is also quite repetitive and not my favorite track, but I actually like the synth loops in it. It should have been developed a bit more or shortened imho

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Worst song off plastic beach? Sure.

Worst song in Gorillaz discography? Not even close to me. Even if we're only talking about early gorillas, I think Rock the House from S/T is one of the worst songs I've ever heard

[–] Shah_of_Iran@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Rock the House is a banger, what in the world are you talking about

[–] cucumber_sandwich@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

It has a very 90s vibe to it. But the flow is amazing.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Photograph by Nickelback.

It makes them seem like an unserious band.

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The Beatles Maxwell's Silver Hammer

I cannot tell you how much I hate this song. And to think that it was the catalyst that was the final straw for Lennon and killed the band. There are other Beatles songs that I hate but this one rises to a whole new level.

[–] bugieman@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Interesting choice. The Beatles have a few songs that I think they missed the mark in but usually it's when an experiment didn't quite work. This one is just bad lol. Almost every time I listen to Sgt Pepper I end up skipping Within You Without You

[–] die444die@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Ween - Candi.

It’s a Ween song though so it’s still pretty legit in its own way.

[–] Lifecoach5000@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

I’m reviewing the whole Ween catalogue in my brain right now and I think you might be right. Reaggejunkiejew might be a close 2nd.

[–] distantsounds@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Ween - Spiritwalker
Can’t stand the auto tune, but it’s not as bad live.

[–] Lifecoach5000@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

What do you think about Friends then 😝

[–] scytale@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I can't pick just one favorite, so I'll choose one of them. Porcupine Tree, and the song Draw The Line. Not because it's the worst in their entire catalogue, but it's so jarring hearing it right in the middle of a concept album. It just takes you out with how different it sounds to the rest of the songs.

[–] KammicRelief@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I love this album. Putting it on now, thanks for the reminder. :)

[–] sirjash@feddit.de 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Metallica & Ja Rule - We did it again.

Yes, Metallica did a song with Ja Rule. You might not like their newer stuff, but I'd rather force myself to listen to the whole St. Anger album than this piece of utter garbage.

[–] negativeyoda@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Wow. Worse than Lulu?

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (3 children)

R.E.M. and Shiny Happy People. It's just so out of place, especially on an otherwise great album.

[–] dan1101@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Kate Pierson sort of makes the video for me but yeah it's a vapid song.

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

It is. I did see a theory that it was actually a very (too?) subtle commentary on the Tiananmen Square Massacre, but I'm not sure I believe it tbh.

[–] TedZanzibar@feddit.uk 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I read somewhere that that was the whole point. Their label or manager complained that all of their songs were dull and depressing and why can't they make something that's chart friendly, so that's what they did. If you listen to the lyrics while knowing the back story you can pretty much hear the sarcasm oozing from every syllable.

Not that I can find any reference to it now, of course, but that's what I read/heard and it makes the song 10 times better.

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah, I could definitely imagine that. Still don't really like it though :-)

[–] Lifecoach5000@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

One of the guys from The Monkees recently covered this and it and it gave me a new found respect for this song.

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Oh cool, I'll need to check that out.

[–] bugieman@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Above & Beyond - Excuses is the one I have to go with. They have some other songs that miss the mark but this one is particularly grating and gets a skip from me every time.

[–] cashews_best_nut@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I met Jono and Tony randomly in a club toilet in the early 2000's. I was mashed off my tits so I'm not sure the conversation was riveting or enlightening for any of us.

[–] bugieman@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Lmao, this comment gave me a good laugh. I'm sure they were absolute chaps though

[–] dmention7@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I first got turned onto Ghost earlier this year, and while I really like the retro tongue-in-cheek cheesiness of a lot of their stuff, The Twenties just leans a little too hard into sounding like it came out of a rock-themed Broadway show.

Btw, I just read a comment on C/trees about taking a listen to your favorite band's worst song while high... 😉

[–] safesyrup@feddit.ch 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Verscheuring in de schemering by fluisteraars. A twenty minute long song, which in it self isn‘t bad at all, but the song as a whole just doensn‘t seem to have a structure and flow.

I listened to it a couple of times as a whole but it just doesn‘t tick for me.

The rest of their discography is amazing though

[–] cashews_best_nut@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Oh god. I didn't know German death metal existed. This is horrendous.

[–] safesyrup@feddit.ch 1 points 10 months ago

Fluisterrars is a dutch black metal band :)

[–] Tujio@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Streetlight Manifesto. Toe to Toe is probably their weakest song. Kinda slow, lyrics aren't great.

Christina She Don't Know I Exist is pretty bad, but I'll give them a bit of a pass because they wrote it when they were about 17 years old.

[–] Snowpix@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Personally I don't care for If And When We Rise Again. Song takes too long to get started, and doesn't sound that great compared to the rest of the album. I don't care for most of the 99 Songs covers either, besides a few.

[–] Tujio@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'll agree on 99. But I don't really consider that one of their albums. They explicitly produced it as a bullshit cop-out to fulfill their contract with Victory Records.

[–] Snowpix@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 months ago

And mad respect to them for doing that. Fuck Victory

Green Day - Here Comes the Shock

[–] Quazatron@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The Pixies - Here Comes Your Man

[–] GCostanzaStepOnMe@feddit.de 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Are you kidding that's their best song.

[–] Quazatron@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I disagree with you. They have many brilliant songs, but this is the only one radios play.

[–] GCostanzaStepOnMe@feddit.de 3 points 10 months ago

Granted, I never heard Pixies on the radio, but if it's one song it's "Where is my mind?", I'd think.

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Huh? I've only ever heard Where is my Mind? and Gigantic play on radios

[–] Waldowal@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Pearl Jam - Pry, To

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 months ago

Currently on a clipping. binge, and I cannot stand the song “Get Up” even though the verses are written wonderfully. I just can’t stand the alarm tone. Too grating.

My favorite band is probably WHY?, and my answer for them is the entire Eskimo Snow album. Just… bad stuff, sandwiched between two albums that are completely incredible.

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Nine Inch Nails. Excluding any of their most recent stuff, Starfuckers, Inc. has always been my least favorite song off their classic albums. Down in It isn't much better, either

[–] cashews_best_nut@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I quite like Starfuckers. It has a "Perfect Drug" vibe/beat to it.

I fucking hate Marilyn Manson though.

[–] LogarithmicCamel@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Down in it is so bad it's good. If you don't take it seriously, it's actually funny.

[–] Bye@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago

Radiohead - every song that isn’t creep
