The Israeli government has not confirmed the specific claim that Hamas attackers beheaded babies during the attack on Saturday, contradicting an earlier statement by the Prime Minister's office. An Israeli official stated that while there have been cases of Hamas militants committing brutal acts, they cannot confirm the identity of the victims, such as whether they were children, soldiers, or civilians. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had indicated the beheadings occurred, but his office later released photos showing burned bodies without specifying their ages. Explosive allegations about decapitated children emerged earlier in Israeli media, and the Israel Defense Forces described the scene as a "massacre." However, Hamas denied the allegations, and CNN could not independently verify the claims.

‘Cause it didn’t happen. Hamas did horrendous shit, but this wasn’t one of them. Why lie? Propaganda.

Free Palestine 🇵🇸

That's because it was just something said by an angry soldier who'd just finished clearing out his area. It didn't actually pick up steam right away, however gradually it did. Really didn't help when Biden repeated it.

This despicably evil person "Nicole Zedeck of Israeli i24 news" is the one that spread the false propaganda of 40 baby beheading.

A lot of people are arguing over specifics of who said what, which random social media post included what, what might have happened, etc.

The point that's being missed is that spreading unconfirmed information as fact is wrong, and it's not ok to use it to justify other atrocities.

All the innocent people harmed in this conflict deserve justice, and that information will only come with time and proper investigation. There's no benefit in running with a report right off the bat, and we should be cautious about any leader / news agency doing that because there ARE groups here trying to take advantage of a crisis.

This isn't specific to any side with this conflict, nor is it with this conflict in particular

and that will only come with time and proper investigation

I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Edited to add a word

We'll likely know what happened with time and proper investigation and while I hope for justice, I agree that there's a precedent of that not happening.

Truth is the first casualty of Zionism

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 4 points 11 months ago (14 children)

I honestly never really understood the term Zionism I looked it up and got:

n 1: a policy for establishing and developing a national
       homeland for Jews in Palestine

So does that mean an anti-Zionist doesn't want Israel to exist, where a Zionist says Israel should exist?

[–] SpiralSong@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Pretty much. Zionist believe that Jews should have their own homeland, and that homeland should be Israel. Anti-zionists would argue they either shouldn't have Israel, or shouldn't have a homeland at all depending on how far down the rabbit hole they've gone.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@kbin.social 2 points 11 months ago

Depending on how Zionist you are, all of Palestine belonging to Jews becomes a thing. You can see why people would oppose that.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated that people had been beheaded by Hamas in an appearance beside Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday, but did not specify if they were children.

In a roundtable with Jewish community leaders on Wednesday, he said: “I have been doing this a long time, I never really thought that I would see… have confirmed pictures of terrorist beheading children.”

They instead likened Hamas’ brutality to that of ISIS, the Sunni terror group that beheaded captives and burned prisoners alive.

Videos posted online verified by CNN show women who were attending the music festival targeted by the group’s gunmen being kidnapped.

CNN has pored through hundreds of hours of media posted online attempting to corroborate accounts of atrocities committed by Hamas.

In one video, which CNN determined to be authentic but has not been able to geolocate, an assailant attacks an injured man with a garden tool in an attempt to behead him.

The original article contains 617 words, the summary contains 158 words. Saved 74%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
