That should keep you busy for a few days of reading alone.

Jellyfin could be a solution.

Do you want to use the machine as a desktop that also does DVR stuff or as a dedicated "set top box" under/close to your TV?

I just want a program showing my dish network and the hardware that enables me to input the hdmi to the Dell with 10Tb

the are together on the mantle and its the movie pc

if i can record the novelas then thats a plus

Jellyfin will work in some situations. It has built-in support for HD home run tuners and has DVR capabilities. However, HD home run only works with OTA or digital cable, not satellite. Also not all clients on all platforms support playback of live or recorded TV. For the right situation, it works really well but it's definitely not a one size fits all.

On the software side MythTV used to be the best. But it's been years since I've used broadcast TV, so I don't know how it holds up at the moment.

I have an old Hauppauge dongle recording OTA hdtv with NextPVR. I use Jellyfin to run the library and Kodi as a frontend on Tv, tablet and phone.

[–] MaxVoltage@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

oh wow nextPVR is the real deal and its open-source 😎

i will look into this but it is actually a brand new dell that came with my graphics card years ago

Well I recommend mythTV. It has been a while since I used it but it was pretty good. I did get it working with a USB tv tuner I once had but that did require building kernel modules manually.
